Dyno results for 2 stock Type-S cars at CMP this weekend
A fellow driver and I each had our RSX-S at CMP, he for racing (SCCA SSB-class) and me for driver's ed. Both cars are completely stock drivetrain - no intake, no exhaust, nothing.
On the dyno supplied there (portable Dynojet 248), we each did 2 pulls and were very disappointed by the results. It was hot out, but the dyno operator assures us the figures we got were corrected for temp, humidity, etc.
One car was low mileage - not quite broken in - 149 whp = 174 crank hp (15% loss estimated)
My car has 7800 miles - broken in - 153 whp = 180 crank hp (same 15% loss estimated for calculation)
My friend has spoken to his dealer, who told him that some of the early cars did not have the best programming for the ECU.
Anybody know of any Acura TSB on this issue? Anyone else run low numbers on the dyno with a stock drivetrain???

Maybe this is why some magazines have been getting really slow acceleration times. I was just browsing through this month's SCC and their stock RSX-S was only pulling a 6.9 on the 0-60. The fastest NA RSX of the group (Toda's) only pulled a 6.4. That car had IHE and cams (a prototype) I believe. Then again it could just be SCC's equipment. And come to think of it, their stock RSX was pulling about 180 hp at the wheels on the dyno.
Hope you guys get this solved. I wonder how much higher up dskull would have placed had his engine been broken in...

wish I had a scanner here...
Right off the dyno sheet:
Abacus Racing Mobile Chassis Dyno Services
Dynojet 248 - SAE corrected figures
DYNORUN.001 Max POWER = 153.2 Max TORQUE = 119.3
DYNORUN.002 Max POWER = 149.0 Max TORQUE = 117.3
Intake Air Temp 97F
Relative Humidity 32.4
Barometer 29.26
Max HP seen at 8000 rpm, Max TQ seen at 6400 rpm
Yes, it was hot that day. Yes the hood was up and a fan was blowing on the radiator. The figures are supposed to be "corrected" for environmental factors listed above.
Taking it to the dealer on Monday to check ECU and anything else that could be the problem.

Gotta love the torque though...
Jason- will you just pick a screen name and stick with it?
Did either you or David run an O2 sniffer on your pulls to see how your A/F ratios were?
Even with the correction, I wouldn't be all that terribly surprised if the computer got pissed at the extreme heat and humidity, and dialed back the timing which would suck power from your motors.

With that said, dskull (the other RSX-S dynoed that day) has seen very good results after re-flashing the ECU at the dealer and running another dyno pull. I'll let him comment on the details but let's say that he saw almost a 10% improvement... Rumor is that some of the early cars were supposed to get ECU re-flashes between delivery to the US and delivery to customers.
So - could be the heat, could be the ECU. Either way, re-flashing my ECU on Monday can't cause any harm, so I'm going to do it, then try to find a Dynojet in Charlotte NC somewhere. Anybody know where to find one around here?
