The rarest color.
Every time I've read a post where a CW ITR was totaled, stolen, etc., more than likely someone will make the comment "The white ones are becoming even more rare." I used to agree that CW was the rarest color in the US. Granted, the Type Rs are dwindling down due to what we all fear most, but with the rough numbers I've heard over the past few years, I am willing to believe that it has to be Black or possibly Yellow. Here's my thinking:
Based on what I've heard, the numbers imported into the US go a little something like this:
97 - 700
98 - 1200-1500 (let's assume 1500)
00 - 1500+
01 - 1500+
Now, we all know that the only year the US got CW was 97 & 98 so that's 2 out of the 4 years, but 97 was a low import/production year. But, you have to bear in mind that even though there were more 00 & 01's imported, there were two colors to chose from (Yellow & Black). Now here's the equation for those who are like me and like to see things visually:
White - 700 + 1500 = 2200 CW between 97 and 98
Yellow & Black - 1500 + 1500 = 3000 between 00 and 01
(If I knew the ratio of FBP to PY, this would be more accurate, but I'm afraid nobody knows for sure) Let's assume a 50:50 ratio.
PY - 3000/2 = 1500
FBP - 3000/2 = 1500
This makes the PY and FBP roughly 700 less than the CW.
On the other hand, you could also debate that one variation of the Black is the most rare of them all. For argument's sake, I grouped both variations together.
I know this isn't some huge revelation and will get many saying (WTF is this guy on crack?),but it is relevant and I thought I'd share.

I'm also curious as to the actual production #'s. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Somebody at Honda/Acura either US or Japan have to know the actual # of cars built and the # of each color. I mean some Exec. has to know this info., hopefully someday one of us will run across this information

thats assuming there were equal number
s of Black and yellow's made.
who knows
s of Black and yellow's made.
who knows
I happen to see more Yellow ITRs when I drive. Others say they see more Black ones in there areas. Its all relative to the area you live in, but basic math shows that the US had more White ITRs imported than any other color.

the "steal me" yellows are going to be gone first...just as well, natural selection dictates the slow ones should be gone first anyway.
oh, about there being more yellows then black...At VIR in Feb all i heard was..."there are a lot of yellow ITRs" and it did seem that there were more yellow ITRs then anything else...actually there was one more black then yellow...blacks are just more stealth bomber.

i know of two back r's....that are now yellow. throw that into the mix, and your count is already off...unless you know the original color to begin with.

For real, when I think of people painting their cars a different color than the manufacturer originally painted it, I too have visions of gay people and drag queens dancing through my head.
I thought it was 1500 yellow, 1500 black for year 2000
1500 yellow, 1500 black for year 2001, but there's some cracker on here with #1528 or some shiot like that. I guess it's one those questions that'll never have an answer

you can get numbers like 1528 and 16whatever b/c when they #ed them, the lumped all the north american ITR's together....(so i heard)
Who would you ruin a perfectly good black teg by painting it urine yellow? Everyone knows the black ones are faster...It's on the acura website.

I have a letter send to the 1st owner of my ITR by acura that states that there where 318 ITR's sold in 1997, and 1023 ITR's sold in 98. This is only the # sold, however I dont believe that the # built is to far from the #'s I have given above.
i think the black itr's are also going to be the rarest, because they are not the same color. in 2000 they were fbp, and in 2001 they were nbp, only one year of each color.
Seeing as the number of ITRs produced in each successive year, I think it would be logical to assume that there were more ITRs produced in 2001 than in 2000. Thus, this would also mean there were more Nighthawks built than Flamencos due to the associative property. #FBP < #NB

There are less black Rs than yellows in 2000 by a long shot... I heard from a higher up at Acura/Honda that only 182 Black Rs made it into the country for 2000... That makes the 2000 Black ITR the rarest...

THat is the most wrong of anything in this post. No one knows numbers but I know for sure there were more than 182 in the US. I saw 20 black ones in July last year fron the states of Utah, Washinton, and California only. That means more than 10% of the black R's came to the Expo whle one percent or less of all type-r's came. THat means Black R owners are the most dedicated too
... How do you know thats wrong? Because the numbers say so? What are the odds of getting a royal flush in poker? Guess what bitch... I took 5Gs with that hand... Its very possible that more than 10% showed up... They would have shown up if they had a yellow or white one too. The color and people showing up is not a legitimate comparison or argument... A small gathering of people in a place where ITRS are prevelent is not a good comparison. And notice I said 2000. Im sure some of the black ones you saw were 2001s as well...Please people read my post. I said year 2000. Not 2000 and 2001... Only 2000.
