Is the passenger airbag light supposed to be lit "off" when nothing is in the seat? Or is it only "off" when a child or something is in it? The reason I ask is because I drive to work everyday with a bookbag and usually put it on the seat. SOMETIMES the light will stay lit on "off", but usually it never says that its off. The one day my bag was kinda heavy and it kept going on then off then on then off. When is it supposed to be off and why? TY

 

There is a sensor in the seat that turns the airbag off if a small child is in the front seat. When the off light is illuminated it means the passenger side airbag is off. The owners manual says that the airbag may turn off if you have something heavy enough in the front seat to be confused with a small child.
