Fox shock install take 2! Pics and review included. Kind've long and *56k go get drunk while waiting
Ok first time I went to get it installed I had a flat so had to wait and fork out money for a new rear pilot power
Well this morning I woke up nice and early to ride into Go-Race.com to get it installed. No flat tires this time
Well when I first got there we had to decide how on earth are we going to do this because this beast was taking the only stand:
eww what's this
Turbo busa with around 500whp
beast of a bike.
Well with that taking up that space we decided to hang my hawk from the cieling which would give them enough room to drop the shock and have the swingarm drop
With that done removing the stock shock was surprisingly simple
Here's my superhawk after he went limp
With the old one out it was time to compare old vs new. man the old one was at least 5 lbs heavier in addition to sucking ballz compared to the new fox shock which I had revalved and rebuilt for me
Well with that out he went to put the new one in AND!! guess what? it didn't fit....
took it back out and we measured the bushings... the fox shock bushings were 2mm too wide at the top and 1mm too wide at the bottom...
Luckily for me they had a lathe. If I even had the garage to do the install this is one place I would've been S.O.L. Well while he was doing the lathe I went out into the showroom for a few and checked out these two gems.
Older ducati (I dunno what model cause I know nothing about ducati's other then it looked pretty cool
)
And this cool aprilia 50
Anyways... Once he had the bushings done it fit right in except for clicker... This is another spot where it was good to do it at the shop. It wouldn't fit on the right side of the bike because the shock is offset slightly to the right side of the bike and the hose was too long and on the left side it was going to be turned the wrong way... So Travis the owner took it and flipped the hose around so it'd fit. YAY!! Well we got it on and now it was time to setup everything. We set free sag, sag with rider, and also ride height... Right now the sag is off cause well the spring isn't quite strong enough for fluffly ol me...
It gives me a goal though to get down to so the spring will match me perfectly. We set the sag as good as we could though. We also raised the rear about 15mm from stock ride height. I didn't want to go higher because I didn't want to risk making it go unstable. Stock the hawk absolutely does not need a damper. I don't think at the current setting it will either but a lil more and I probably will want to throw one on to be safe.
On the ride home it felt like a whole new bike. It seemed to just drop right into turns, held wheelies like noones business
and the rear was a lot more stiff unlike the stock piece of crap. I only got about 20 miles in on the ride home and not to hard since my rear still isn't fully scrubbed in
Here's the final pics of the install. The shock + install ended up coming in around $500 including what I paid marm for it. Not bad though considering it feels like a whole new bike.
I had to leave town for a job interview in the morning in Baltimore so I'm hoping I get back into town and get to rip it up this weekend. Anyways. Thanks for looking!
oh btw pardon the large amount of run on sentences and rambling on. lol. I just got home and while my stuff is in the wash I decided to post this

I kind've wondered that myself.. maybe the years have slightly different sizes or my guy replaced them and they ended up coming in wrong... dunno but it's all good now

LALLALALLALALLALLA I'm not listening!!! lol. I try not to think of it too much cause it ruins the fun that I get out of it all... Though I admit it has been a bit and I'm not done. haha
There's been a lot of stuff I've wanted and some has cost a bit but it's the stupid crap that's adding up. Battery melting off a terminal, getting the flat, dot 5 mistake (I'll own up to this one. heh), then losing my gaskets and stuff to FIX the dot 5 mistake when the bungee net broke. lol. This mod from the little bit I noticed when going back to my apt it was well worth it

I noticed that. Unless they gave me some discount im not letting them stick that ugly thing on my clean bike.

well the stock fox sticker was all mangled. I'll probably pull it off but didn't have time to before leaving town... still waiting on my stuff to get out of the dryer before passing out. oh and it does want rearsets. lol if you hold them for me in a few months they're mine if not earlier if I get this thing tomorrow *crosses fingers, prays, gets a 4 leaf clover, tries to think of any other good luck charm* only downside is I won't be in the mountains anymore...
Hahaha. The rearsets are yours dude. I'll hold on to them for you.
I've had a few inquiries about the Superhawk already, so it looks like the only things I'll have left are the rearsets (yours) and the track plastics (again, yours).

Waiting to hear back. Actually only a few bites. That Salvage title scares away a lot of buyers.

so I went out today to ride some more to also finish scrubbing in my tires and man oh man everything just felt so much smoother and dropping into turns at high speeds felt so comfortable and stable. It was AWESOME!!! I've almost forgotten that I kind've wanted to add a 600 to the stable because the bike feels so incredibly sweet now. if anyone has thought about upgrading their rear shock I wouldn't hesitate. Easily the best mod I've ever done.
Going riding tomorrow at our local motorcycle playground and I expect to be a little more comfortable and smooth this time

Yes but your bike looks to have a much simpler rear suspension making it easier.
As for the lathe dealy; diegrinders are the best! hahaha.

well not really. biggest problem for us superhawk guys is we have one of the longest shocks on the market. No other shock fits from other bikes so we have to buy specific. Like sv650 guys can use zx9r shocks

I think thats how it goes for most of the hondas, i couldnt even use a 954 shock on my 929 with a 954 swingarm since the resovoirs always get in the way.
