Default is there a way to clean my oxygen sensor???

I just had a header installed on my 1990 accord and the O2 sensor failed 10 minutes later (at least I think it's the sensor, the engine light came on and it started idling rough). I suspect they didn't use 'sensor safe' silicone. Anyways, is there any way to clean the sensor? if not, will a new sensor get fouled too? how long until the silicone is burned off? any help here would be great.
Thanks

Get your code pulled before you start throwing money at it. The CEL could not even be related.
