ok, ok....... So I don't have a 720hp S2000, or even an S2000 at all, and yes I do know that this is the Integra forum, but I think that I have a good point that you can use when it comes to the good 'ol AMERICAN MUSCLE VS. JAPANESE INGENUITY argument. If I'm inaccurate or sound like an idiot, by all means let me know, this is just speculation....Here it goes:
As of right now the epitome of the American Muscle car engine (within reason) is the LS2 (06 Corvette C6...... V8, 6.0 liter...405hp/400 ft. lbs. tq.) Pretty impressive numbers? sure, but ponder this:
The Honda S2000 makes 240hp out of a 2.0 liter, now let's say that the powers that be at Honda decided to up the displacement of the F20C from 2.0 liters to 6.0, that would almost tripple it's specific output!!! Turning it from a 240hp screamer to a 720hp monster (240hp x 3 = 720hp). Like I said, this is just a what if scenario, but IF they did it would be awesome.
Conclusion: American auto manufacturers resort to using huge displacement, inefficient engines to make their high horsepower numbers, while Japanese auto makers use their heads. The internal combustion engine has virtually remained the same since it's introduction, it's all just a matter of who improved upon it the best.
Let me know what You think

Thanks, I don't know if all this is accurate, It's just something that I was thinking about while drinking some beers with my freinds. But don't try to tell this to a camarro/GTO/Corvette owner, they can't handle the truth, HA!

True, but did you even comprehend what I said...."WHAT IF".... the S2000 has the highest hp per liter of any NA car in the world (in stock form)......What would happen if they upped the displacement? Anyone?.....

Don't even get me started on my "Demise of the Musclecar" speech. It'll have you V8 guys questioning your faith.

If they upped the displacement, they would have to install power robbing balance shafts because four cylinders have both first and second order moments. We can talk about "what ifs" all day. The Vette will still hand an S2000 it's ***.

</TD></TR></TABLE> I agree, and it does'nt take any skill to buy a car that is already fast. Maybe I'm saying that because I can't afford the vet!

.....And just how much power would be "robbed" by these parasitic balance shafts? It would probably be rather insignificant when compared to the Proletariat LS2

hes not. this is the most common argument import guys give to muscle guys.....
they are like "my car makes 100 horsepower per liter!!" and the muscle guy responds by saying "ya but your car has only got 1 liter!!!"
the problem is that to make a lot of power on a bigger engine you need way more heavy duty internal parts..... chevy ford and dodge all know how to make amazing power out of a v8 but they dont. its not cost efficient. but increasing the displacement is. if there was a cost efficient way to do it... then you would see companies like honda making v8s too.
and that is all there is to it. look into fords new dohc v8 engine. its a very impressive engine. slight mods yield great power. the new 7 liter corvette engine though wastefull keeps the price of the corvette under 100 000$ yet still faster in every aspect than the lamborghini murcielago... a 300 000$ car.
