I'd rather see you do a SOHC VTEC rather than a ZC. ZC really aren't all that great.

Well, they both have the same power.

But with a SOHC, you have to get a VTEC ECU and wiring harness. DOHC drops right in with current wiring, plus the valve cover looks cooler

Right and that I understand. There is limited performance with those motors since there is no aftermarket. That is all, that and I have seen 3 DD DOHC ZC's take a crap all in the bottom end. Everyone must do what they want thought too.

The aftermarket is there, its just harder to find. Cams are pretty easy to find, and thats all you really need. Other stuff (Cam gears, etc) are pretty hard to find, but who needs them really? Its still a D series, so keep in mind they wernt designed to make tons of power. Any minor bolt on that fits an a6 will fit the ZC (with the exception of headers - you have to slightly portmatch those). If your looking for tons of power, just go B series. If you want an engine that runs on midgrade and still gets 35MPG city, go with the DOHC ZC. Its a nice daily driver engine, and they seem to love boost.

And I think they spin bearings on the bottom end is because people rev them to 7200 RPM +.

Not trying to flame, just debating

you do realize that the DOHC ZC bottom end is exactly the same as all SOHC D16 engines (other than having higher compression domed pistons)? that being the case, why would they be any more likely to have problems than a SOHC? also, a SOHC VTEC ZC (or D15B or D16Z6 or D16Y8) will not perform as well as the DOHC ZC - not even close

why do they have more problems you ask? because dumbasses who think they are getting an upgrade rev the **** out of them and then wonder why they take a dump!

you usually know your ****, but why do you say no other D will perform as well?
did you smoke some crack this morning? "not even close" you say?

Please think a little before spreading crap like that around. its a great engine, just like most all other Honda engines, but a sight more pickish to find parts for, and the bolt-on aftermarket will put a Z6 well beyond the potential of a DOHC ZC.

Well anyways, Hmotors is great. I got mine 700 shipped.

What kind of bolt on aftermarket are we talking about? The DOHC makes 130 HP WITHOUT VTEC, which means that either the cams are more agressive or the head flows better. Normal bolt ons have nothing to do with the potential of a motor. That has to do with the rod\stroke (or something like that..) ratio, and how well the head flows. Plus, you can adjust each cam individually, ADDING to the "potential" of the motor.

Even if the heads flow the same, and the blocks are the same, the DOHC will always have the advantage because of the adjustability.

People say that all the time, but I'd like for someone to name some parts that are available for the SOHC that are not avalable for the DOHC ZC. There may not be the variety (which half the variety is either a knock off or garbage) but the parts are there. Not garbage parts, but proven parts used over and over.
