a recent leakdown test showed my #2 exhaust and #3 intake valves are still open a little at tdc. ive had around .040 that i know of taken off of my block and head combined.
i just got some adjustable camgears to see if i can make some small changes to the timing(the teeth on the oe gears are a very tiny bit off)
does that sound reasonable to be my problem? would having that much removed from the motor make the timing off a few degrees, enough to keep a valve open a tiny bit?

very true, i was thinking about that one also. however this is a fully built motor with already low compression, im not sure if i want to go much lower with it. thicker hg still might come into play in the future

it might be the valves just arent seating right. your leakdown tells you how much is coming throught the valves when they are closed. having the deck and head milled down should not really play into the leakdown test. my suggestion is to either get new valves or get some headwork done to seat the valves better.

well the head was on a motor that blew a huge sleeve chunk out. afterward it was machined to recut the valveseats, check all the valves for being bent and then replace them with oem ones. there's a lot coming through the valves, if i open my exhaust cutout and put my hand there i can feel it blowing on my hand.
if the gears dont help, no biggie i could use them anyway, ill prolly have to buy a new head
