Everybody that I have talked to that is a mechanic said that it is bad to race a car.
So why does the vtec kick in at high revs? My uncle said that people that race their cars on tracks and such are toys and are completely different cars from a daily driver. And one person that worked at a mechanics shop said that accelerating hard on the gas wares parts out very fast.

LMFAO!!
seriously, kid, full-out race cars are different from cars on the street.
VTEC engages an extreme lift and duration of the exhaust valvetrain. If this same lift and duration were sustained from 500 rpm thru redline, you would have an engine that would not last you very long or be as reliable as they are now.

and you're a jerk. This person has a good question for a newbie, used good grammer, and politely asked his question. Haters like you make great places like H-T suck.
For the topic creator:
It is perfectly ok to rev your honda as high as you want to go as often as you want, as long as you don't go into redline. You can also mash the gas to your heart's content.
I would recommend using only Honda motor oil, properly breaking in the engine, and doing all maintenance as scheduled. Doing this will make it last and not wear out parts quicker than if you babied the car. Note I said HONDA. I don't know about other vehicles.
Keep reading on H-T and you will learn alot and just ignore the flaming, don't take it personally, it makes them feel good about themselves

I wouldn't be so bold as to go name calling back when your explination is certainly not what I would tell a novice who wanted to learn about cars.
He asked why VTEC engaged at high revs and I politey explained that, in a manner that he'll hopefully understand.
You, on the other hand, basically told him it's ok to continually beat on an engine and not expect something to break. It doesn't matter if you drive a Volvo, Honda or a Noble M400; it doesn't matter. Continuous full-throttle runs and revving to near redline are not "OK" for it. You must realize that it IS causing wear on the engine when you do this. After you realize that you should then realize that you'll have to spend time to maintain the engine.
Fluids will need changed more frequently. Clearances will need checked more often. Bolts will need retorqued often.
I would never tell someone who wants to learn more about cars that it's "OK" to rev your engine high and frequently and not expect to have to maintain it more often.

Using honda "labeled" motor oil isnt the best advice, by the way.
Its just a dyno-syn blend, thats it.
Anyways, just maintain your car man. You well get a ton of life from it.
FYI, my 94 accord has about 205k miles. I also autocross the thing about 5x a year. It's held up fine.
But yes, hard driving does add up to wear and tear to your car.

revving the engine all the time will certainly shortened its life but not that much. it will still be good till the guarantee period.

i rape my h22 accord everyday each friday it gets about 8 runs down the track and on sat night i get about 6 good street races it (we have a special location where I live) the motor has 80k on it and ive had it for 40. yes beating the hell out of the motor will cause wear and tear but taking it to the track a few times a year or raping on it a few times a week are not in any way going to reduce the reliability or longevity of your motor as long as you take care of the car like you should. once that motor gets 200k on it you will probably start to see some signs of yo.ur abuse but in all honesty the damage that will be done is minimal

The question about vtec has already been answered, so I'll skip it.
Some track cars are toys, never used on public roads. Some are completely stock daily drivers. Most fall somewhere in between, I would guess. I autocross my Integra once a month, and put it on a track for an HPDE every couple of months. Its not stock, but it is street legal, and I do drive it to and from work daily. Keep in mind, an HPDE is NOT a race, just people driving on a racetrack for fun, and breaking 125 mph @ Willow is certainly fun...
Accelerating wears out parts. Driving wears out parts. Eh, take care of you car, give it proper maintenence, and it will still wear out. Just accept that, and accept that any additional beating you subject it to can wear it out faster, and enjoy it for what it is.

And it'd make less power down low. Vtec engagement is very carefully designed to produce maximum power, fuel economy, and drivability.
In our Fits, Vtec engages to bring the motor up to all 16 valves, producing more power. At lower RPM, it only engages half the intake valves, causing a swirling of the a/f and better torque and most importanly, fuel economy.
All in all, I beat the crap out of every car I own. I race every car I've owned on a track. Just keep up with your maintenance, and your car will last you for 200K or more. The nicest thing about the Fit is the maintenance minder. It keeps track of a lot of variables you couldn't (for one, rev count) and tells you when to change your oil. I guarantee you that a HPDE will knock your oil life down by 20%, thanks to high revcount, and unusually high temperatures. If you want to feel safer, change the oil after an event, and send it in for analysis. You'll be surprised how little wear hard driving is causing your motor, so long as you keep plenty of oil in it, and don't let it overheat.

Honda's usually are very reliable cars. My brothers 92 GS-R has been through hell. It currently has a little over 190k on the original engine and still ticking. He's recently sold it and we still see it running around. Secondary lobes on those camshafts are probably more wore out then the primaries. Car has gone through a full transmission rebuild and clutch change and typical cv replacement. Also had all of the boltons availible for it.
