If the 06 SI has no power before VTEC why is it a best seller ?
I would say its decently quick, it runs a 14.9 stock with a decent driver. Put a RH/I/E & Reflash and your doing 13.9s on an all season tires....get some DRs and your looking at 13.6-13.7s. Maybe not to you, but to me thats pretty respectable for a car that weighs 2850lbs.

the 06 si is geared to stay above 6k rpm during spirited driving.......the lower rpms are usually fuel economy rpms i guess you could say, although the midrange is pretty peppy......the car is really easy to get moving. I have no problem with lack of power....ran a 14.9 with just a SRI and crappy all seasons. I get 32 mpg, run 14's, and have the piece of mind with a warranty. i personally can't ask for much more.

You should.
I agree, 120 is very easy to hit in the new Si. I was cruising at 120 in 5th gear 7,000 rpm. Has anyone gone beyond the 120 mark yet with their Si? How does the car feel at that speed?

I have taken my up to 132, and I think I was just shifting into 6th gear, or I was in 6th gear for a little. Either way, I got there quick as hell.

Haha. Well I used to drive a crx DX, so this is a BIG improvement in power for me.

^^^Once you do, you will be addicted. This was my first car with vtec and OMG, I love it. Now I do know that the curve is a little more aggressive to make the driver "feel" vtec "kicking" in, but I do love that feeling. The difference is like night and day,

Yeah, you will never want to go back to what you had. Plus, you will always that at least has these same capabilities.

That can be done in many cars. Doesn't make it special. I've gone way beyond that in my b16 equipped EJ2.. I'm not bragging or trying to "flame", I just don't think it was a good point to make.

he wasnt making a point, he was just saying that its his first car to go past 120 mph. Everybody knows people do it in there cars. I know one thing tho, 120 in the new si feels alot nicer than 120 in a crx, < thats just plain scary.
The whole point of the car not having any power early in the powerband is to give you economy when you need it. We make like 60whp at 3-4000rpm... Which is why you are getting 30mpg in a vehicle that puts out some nice N\A numbers.
Look at larger-displacement cars that put out the same amt of bhp... The si does pretty well as far as economy... And besides if your racing your in vtec the whole time anyway so its kinda moot

Actually, speaking from experience, the first day I got the car I raced it. I was going against a 90's CRX that had many mods. I heard it was fast and light. Thought it would make a good race. We did 2 runs on an open road. The first went okay, I was just trying to get my timing down, so I finished a little behind him. On the second run, we were side by side the entire time. By the time we got to 100, I saw his car act differently. He started to move more in his lane. I backed off since my car was so new. I could tell the suspension was lacking for all the HP and torque he was pushing. My car on the other hand felt perfectly fine.

This is exactly why I bought this civic. It is sporty and fast while you can still conserve fuel consumption. It all depends on how you feel that day or the situation, which is completely opposite from my 02 LX coupe (that was auto). Alot more fun to drive this car around and mod it.

Hmmmm i just hope it meet's my Expectations i am buying the car because it has VTEC and ive heard so much about it over the years. Ive been in a Type R, and a Type S RSX but it didnt hit that hard in the rsx so i would think its more aggresive in the SI ?

A properly tuned VTEC car shouldnt "kick" at all and should be a smooth transition from low to high cams
Worry more about the hard numbers than the "feel" of a VTEC kick --- with low 14's stock the Si is quick and priced perfectly

consider the vtec engagement in the new si equivalent to .8psi of boost. u can feel it kick in, but it doesnt launch u into the back of ur seat. it's very fun once u hit the tec! get one and find out
I am putting my deposite down for the 06 SI in september i live in New York so i can get whatever i want on it i just have to wait 3 months i was told. I am not sure which color i want its between NightHawk Black Pearl, or Rallye Red what do you guys think ?

definitely. i would hope a 14 second car can easily hit 120; i did it in my 98 hp carburated accord
