Power Steering Question
I know your probably thinking "just another can I add power steering thread", and it is in a way. That's not my main question though:
Question #1: Does turning the wheel with the car not moving (Like in a parking lot) actually hurt or wear anything in the steering or suspension? Having that kind of resistance just seems like it's gotta be wearing on something badly.
Question #2: I have a '90 CRX Si w/ B16A2 swap, Can I add power steering to my CRX? If so what kind of setup would that be with my current car and engine?
I know a lot of you are probably thinking why add PS? Well I have been driving a DA for the last year and going back to no PS again made me realize how much I enjoy it in parking lots and when doing handbrake turns.

I have no problem turning the wheel, I just want to make sure it's not hurting anything, because it feels like it's "stretching" something. I understand you do the same thing when you have power assisted steering, I was just looking for some verification.

To add P/S you'll need everything pump, lines, resivior, cooler, rack and subframe.
I am converting a CRX right now.
The subframe change is because the P/S rack is a bigger diameter. I haven't tried to put the power rack on the manual subframe. You ~might~ be able to put the power rack on the manual subframe if you remove the bushings but it might transfer noise.
I sourced all the parts from a 4 door EF.

These thread make me laugh. They want power steering so that the resistance isn't there, but it is there, with power steering.
The resistance you feel is the tires gripping the ground, a normal action. When you add power steering, you simply make the steering column no FEEL the resistance, but it's still there. It will create the same wear and tear as without it, you simply wont feel it.
Plus it robs a good deal of power

If you read the whole thread you would have seen me say "I understand you do the same thing when you have power assisted steering, I was just looking for some verification."
The reason I asked the question was because when you have power assisted steering the pressure helps move the steering column along, it's more smooth, and it's more constant. I was just wondering if there was any other advantage to PS in terms of component wear.

"good deal of power" that's BS.
If that were true every GSR, ITR guy out there, his hot setup would be "P/S belt off".
If you have a dyno sheet you prove me wrong but I bet it consumes less than 5hp when not in use.
The pump does use power when you are turning at a slow speed or turning while stopped but once moving the pump uses almost nothing. Plus it helps control torque steer.

To do it your can swap rear crossmembers(with the rack in it) with a civic hatch that had power steering. then get the lines/pump/resevoir from a 94+ integra and it should all bolt in, One of the lines might need to me modified but I dont remember. hope this helps
