Default Exhuast smoking after connecting heat cable in climate control, Help this looks bad

Hey everyone

on my 92 4th gen i took the dash apart, (woo) and hooked up the heater cable to the cold/hot ****. after i did this i only put the unit back in to make sure it worked before putting all that stuff back on. It seemed like it worked altho i still couldnt hear my AC condenser kick on so i think thats another problem. Anyhow i turned it to the heat part finally and i saw smoke, when i was walking toward the back i thought it was white smoke from a very wet morning from my muffler tips BUT it was coming out where my back passenger wheel is. Now im pretty sure there is a hole in my exhuast so maybe this is why smoke is coming out there, but i dont know, the smoke smelled like exhaust (gross), but there was more than id like to see ya know.

If it helps with the AC, the air smelled like maple syrup kinda after i connected and started moving the heat **** back and forth?

What could this be? my car is gutted and i might need it so any soon reply is welcomed. Thanks guys

sounds like you either have a leak at a heater hose or you have a busted heater core

ok i got the wire connected, everything is back together and ok. When i use the climate control now i get smoke coming out from my back passenger wheel well. I am assuming this is coming from the hole in my exhuast. What could this be, it only started after i connected my heater cable, Moo you said this could be a blown heater core? My AC isnt working either or it just isnt in there cuz i dont hear the condenser kick on when i press the button. Could these problems be related? like the same piece
