head gasket remains.
im doing a mini me swap and do not wanna ruin the integrity of the block, but there is a lot of crud from the composite head gasket. whats the best way to remove it? i tried a razor blade but did not work well. Thanks
You can try a sticker removal tool -- a handle for razor blades -- or you can whip out the industrial strength gasket removal tools and just make sure you don't damage the mating surface too much.
Don't use sandpaper!
If you're going to use a "power sander" use scotchbrite instead.
I like to spray on a gasket remover, let it sit and then hit with a stiff plastic/nylon scraper.

Goo-B-Gone and a plastic scraper can be a life saver for a baked on gasket.

Yeah, AutoZone should have GooGone. If not, WalMart will for sure.
I spray gasket remover on a blue Scott's shop towel and wipe that onto the stuck on gasket, let it sit, and then I very carefully hit it with a Craftsman 1.25" gasket scraper. I also spray small amounts of gasket remove on the scraper itself to keep it moist and to help break through some of the tougher stuff. Make sure you push the scraper across the deck and not into the deck. There's nothing that a few more passes and more gasket remover won't get off so don't use too much elbow greese.
