a'pexi ws sound
I just recently bought an apexi ws II exhaust because my last exhaust (magnaflow) was too loud. To my suprise this exhaust is extremely damn loud and ecoes so loud my friends can here me from a far even when I am not on it. The exhaust is extremely can sounding. Is there anyone else who got these results and if so how do you quiet it down since apexi doesn't sell a silencer for this muffler?
a friend has one for his h22 accord and i does sound just as you described. it sounds like he has a test pipe with no resonators even he's got the stock cat on. it sounds thin and i can hear his car down the street and around the block at night.
hmmm? i just had my WS II put on two weeks ago and its nothing like that. its quiet at normal driving and has a 'growl' to it at WOT. at free rev (in neutral or w/ the clutch engaged) it does sound a little raspy, but under load its ok. i have a test pipe also.
I am going on a limb here, but I really believe it is my resonator as the style is a straight through design and it had an exhaust leak at one time. My system is 4-2-1 headers, hign flow cat, 2.25'' piping, resonator and muffler, yet It sounds so unbelievably loud that I can outsound my buddies srt-4 with hollowed out cats.
Here is a sound clip for my exhaust. Any input on how to alter this sound needed.

thats not right at all. i have AEM CAI, megan header, and WS2 catback, and the exhaust is BARELY louder than stock. the loudest it gets is growling @ WOT.
did you buy the cat-back or just the muffler??
i'm guessing its either your test pipe and/or resonator

yeah thats really strange... it should sound a lot better than that. just like he said what is your cat setup...?
I have magnaflow and everybody around here says it is the best sounding honda they have heard. I am turbo and it is really quiet and modest... sounds great. shouldnt have ditched your old setup
Also megan makes a really good sounding catback

I am hoping I can just change my resonator to solve it. Do any of you think that it could be my headers being that they aren't that great and bought cheap?
I am pretty sure it is an apexi ws. And does anyone use a glasspack resonator and/or know the difference between that and a resonator that is more straight through.
yea you say you are sure that it is a WS but is it the second version or the first...i had the WS2 pn my car for about a year now and its not loud at all...also it is not a straight thru design its a chamber design
Something is definitely not right somewhere.....
I just put a WS2 cat-back on last week. That thing purrs like a kitten. I have 4-2-1 header, high flow cat, and then the WS2 cat-back. The cat-back system came with its own resonator, did you just get the can? It was made to be put on as a set.
You might have the right can, but I think the rest of your piping/system is what is giving you problems:

bingo...
i stopped by to examine the friend's ws2 on an h22 accord and he did have a custom setup, not the real ws2 catback. it definately sounded like the one in the video by lude 1888

Thanks alot cgo_62 and Lewdin' Incognito for the confirmation on it being the piping maybe. Do you think the piping really makes the difference or do you think that it is just because of the resonator that comes with the catback system.

a resonator will definately help tone down the raspy sound that you've got. the quality of material and the diameter size will affect the sound as well.

if you have a straight through muffler, a high flow cat, and a small resonator. your exhaust is gonna be that loud..
the muffler, and resonator/s are what will determine the tone of your exhaust note and how raspy it may sound. if you put on a muffler that is not straight through, a chamberd muffler, like a real world sport or any other chamberd muffler it will quiet it down quite a bit.

i'd try to weld in as many resonators in the thing as possible.
it sounds like ****.
try an 18" + 14" see if that helps at all, which it should...

I still think he's still going to have problems. I had a straight-thru muffler; had an extra resonator welded in and even had the silencers in it and it sounded like ***.
If you want it to sound good, I strongly suggest you pony up for a complete cat-back system. Probably the best deal you are going to get on the WS2 is from here: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1618948&page=1
I believe they're going for around $420 shipped right now; is usually about $500 shipped. I had to ride around a while with the ***-can sound, but when I finally spent the money it is well worth it!
