need to paint my lip...
I have a black 00 civic coupe. Can i get a can of factory color paint anywhere? Do local auto stores sell it? I plan to primer, paint, and clear coat it myself. It's much cheaper than taking it to a body shop.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm assuming you could just go to an auto paint store and give them your paint code that's located on you door jam.
That;s what my friends did.

If a paint store can't an autobody shop should be able to.

If your going to paint your lip
Scuff it up and primer it. Instead of adding one thick coat add 4-5 thin coats and do the same for the clear coat. This way you can have a nice gloss and also get some rubbing compund to cover mistakes. Dont forget the polish guood luck.

What the hell do you go off writing a comment like that? As long as you take your time, do it right, and use the OEM paint then it shoudl look the same. The only diffrence between you and someone using a paint gun is the amount of paint that comes out at once. Take your time, do it right; and it should turn out fine.

it really depends on how you want to paint it. if you want it to look nice, go out and buy or maybe rent a gravity feed sprayer. I just got done painting my car with a gravity feed gun and it turned out sweet, then you need to clear coat it, but take your time with the clear coat and make sure it doesn't run, that's what happened to some spots on my car. You can go get paint at a bumper to bumper store, and i think some hardware stores would do it for you. Im not positive on that though. If you lived near me in Wisconsin, I would do it for you for a good price, but i don't know where you live.
Oh yea, not everything looks like ****. Maybe you just didn't do it right.
This is what you do if you want to paint something. If the part you want to paint is already painted sand it real good. Then Primer the piece you want to paint with a thick primer or lots of coats. Then you need to take sandpaper (320-600) and sand it real smooth. Wipe it down with a damp towel to get the dust off of it and then wipe it down with Tack Cloth(you can get that at a paint store too) This stuff will remove all the dust that is left behind, it works real nice and makes the piece have a nice finish. when your done wiping off the piece you can paint it however you want to. Try to paint it without wind by you and where it is above 75 degrees(or whatever is hot to you) so the paint dries real nice. Let it bake in the sun. then wait up to an hour before clear coating it. you can buff the piece something like 20 or so hours after its done being clearcoated, BUT DON'T USE SILICONE PRODUCTS ON THE PAINTED PIECE UP TO 50 OR MORE DAYS BECAUSE IT COULD MESS THE PAINT UP BAD. Paint dries from the inside out. This is what i did, and my car looks great. ill get pictures on HT garage soon hopefully. I hope this helps.

South Carolina, really really far away..

mikeunreal2, just prep reallly well, and wetsand between coats. that will give you the smoothest finish. thin coats are key.
also you MUST wait for it to completely dry between coats... i know its hard to be patient like that (well for me anyways) but if you take your time, it will turn out great.
in the end, give it a final wetsand, and hit it up with some meguiars polish. it should shine really well.

you don't have to wet sand on a primered piece. if you want to go ahead, but you don't need to. I just wet sanded my car and i didn't primer my car. Wet sanding is used to keep the dust off of the sandpaper. To be honest, it kind of sucks to wipe of when it dries. but its totally up to you.
where do you guys think I should go to get the best OEM paint mixed for me? The problem is my lip doesnt even fit real well. I have to fight that battle first. I have to try to get it on my bumper, then tape off my body and start working on the lip. I am not sure how I am goign to get the lip on, but its a ghetto ebay lip that doesnt fit well at all.

You're an idiot. So you're saying that everyone who paints there car themselves with paints they purchase from the internet or local stores is going to turn out like crap? Do body shops use some special magic, or have a special spray gun that makes their paint turn out amazing? You're in idiot. Stop talking.

Again, with everything in life if you take your time it will more than likely turn out good.

Mike</TD></TR></TABLE> Just go to NAPA they can mix it and put it in a spray can for you. Tell them what the bumper is made of and they can put the right paint together for you. If it is for a urethane bumper they will mix the paint with an additive that lets it flex without cracking ect
