Strange noise..balljoint? shocks?
Ive got a strange squeeking noise on my front drivers side (90 CRX). Every time I hit a bump it makes this clunk/squeek noise.. what can it be?
Can it be a balljoint or strut problem? And how can I tell one from the other?
Thanks.

put the car on jackstands.
grab everything, including the wheels and control arms and tie rods and *SHAKE*
that will tell you if you have any play.
do you feel it through your steering wheel?

your suspension.
noises and play and clunks CANNOT be diagnosed over the internet.
you have to do the work yourself.
once youve located the part, and have questions about how to replace it, or what its called or whatever, then ppl can help you.
saying my car has a clunk, "help", does NO GOOD.

listen to tyson. I suggest putting on some gloves so you can apply more force while testing.
also while checking out the suspension, remember the parts might not move or have any play, but if they make the "clunk" sound you describe then you found your problem.
sounds like worn ball joints in the upper control arms.

Thanks for all the input.. I was leaning towards the ball joints in the upper arm as well. But I'll check it all out while Im there. I just wanted to see if there was a distinct difference between a bad ball joint and bad struts.
If it is a bad balljoint on the upper arm... is it difficult to change?
