shifter is HITTING EXHAUST!!!
i just had an auto-manual swap done, not sure if the shifter and linkage is oem, but they fit.
the problem is it's hitting my exhaust. its hard to get a close look but i think its hitting the exhaust shield?
as far as i can tell i have two options
1. go to an exhaust shop ask them to give me 1 inch lower exhaust hangers
pros: should be cheap
cons: car is already lowered, might cause scraping problems
2. buy a new shifter, hope it's different from the one that's giving me problems
pros: might be the technically more correct solution, exhaust is unmodified why should i put a bandaid over my problem?
cons: shifters probly more expensive than new exhaust hangers

i got the exact same problem but its with an ef. thereason why its becasue i have a short shifter.the shorts shifters are all bigger form the ground down to make the throw smaller, thus making the shifter hit. i justgot around it by makind the exhoust a bit lower and cutting that piece of meatal that hangs to the side from the tip of the shifter.
oooh thanks i was thinkin about cuttin away at pieces too.

oh. if u buy a short shifter its gonna get worse. the short shifters are longer from the bottom to shorten the throw like i said. that looks like a short shifter to me. but ya get the oem one

Just try to manipulate the rubber exhaust hanger bracket in a position where the shifter will not contact it.
I recently installed a Skunk2 dual bend and was having a hell of a time trying to get it not to hit the heatshield on my 2000 Si.
I was able to get it adjusted and then just "wired it up" with wire cable. I know it sounds ghetto but it works if you take your time and use some common sense.

wow...does everybody run into these problems when installing a short shifter on a honda? I was goign to want to buy one but I'm really getting deflected from buying one if it's going to be a pain in the *** to set so it doesn't scrape

It really just sounds more complicated than it is.
It's not very hard to install and it makes a significant difference vs the factory shifter.
Don't be scared by this stuff. Like I said before, use common sense and you'll be ok.

Blah, I wouldn't say I'm scared of doing it per-se, it's just that like I rather install something that goes right to than to mess w/ it, but w/ stock suspension I should be able to get longer hangers on it...though this is AFTER I swap because right now it's completely useless to me with my stock motor

y frinds civic had this problem to well actually only when going into 5th. his exhaust was 3in so when he would go 5 it would kik it back out so he held in in there by force.. getto? hehe

take it to an exhaust shop and have them heat up the exhaust pipe and bend it down a little bit. They should do it for free and it takes like 5 minutes - i had the same problem last month
mine did the same thing and when you moved it back and forth you could hear it like grind on it well anyways I didnt worry about it cause it wasent hurting anything and that was with my b16a in my crx. with hasport everything
dood i have 2 extra longer exhaust hangers if you want ...
used to be in my old civic because the exhaust was hitting the bumper...
it's high grade parts from autozone...i have no use for it..

well guys i took it to an exhaust shop today
they said it was definitely a short shifter cuz they've never seen this problem on civics before.
the first removed the heat shield, that fixed i'd say 80% of the contact, then they welded a new hanger in a lower spot and attached it to the stock hanger. that seemed to cure all issues.
but later on hte road accelerating hard in 2nd and 4th i can hear a slight rattle, this should probly be completely eliminated when i get a genuine shifter.
o yea my exhaust hangs probly about 1 and a half inches lower now
