Default Stock Si Wheels

Hey guys, I realize that there are previous threads about polishing wheels, but I have never seen any prelude Si wheels re-done. I am getting ready to try and polish mine, and was wondering if anyone here has been through the process.

dont do it, if your wheels have a amachined finish to it, you'll need lower than 80 grit and a MASSIVE amount of elbow grease to get the machine finish off, otherwise the rim will NOT be smooth.

i did my si's and it took me a week, witha total of 50 man hours.

with that said the results are nice ^_^

Thats fine with me, I have heard it isn't that difficult. Most stock wheels such as the gs-r fat fives and the lude blades are al a machined finish. I always thought the key of having a solution such as Jasco or Aircraft paint remover did the trick to take off the top layer and then ofcourse sanding would be required. Do you happen do have any pictures, I would love to see!!??

i followed this how-to

http://forums.clubsi.com/showf...age=0

i dont see how you could get that machined finish off with 280 grit i barely got it off with 80.

i'll post a few pics in a few days when i upload them

Thats not true, 220 grit works pretty well. Most people say it takes 4-5 hours per wheel using this method, not 12...

dood, u act like i'm lying or something, I started with 150 grit and it took forever to get that machine finish off, so i went to a lower grit and it was much easier (although still extremely hard). maybe that person used an actual machine to do his sanding, in which case he could probably just leave it there and wait for the machine finish to wear off

but if you're doing this by hand it'll be much harder to get that machien finish off.

i'll post my pics later tonight

I probably have close to 5 hours on my first wheel and have yet to witness any real results. This is what I have done so far.....

180 grit
220 grit
400 grit sand/wetsand
800 grit wetsand

Is there a big difference from this to 2000grit?

I'd wetsand with the polish using 1500-2000 grit.

no all the wetsanding is meant to just create a smooth surface.

the big results will be after the polish

before

during

after
