92 prelude s/si starting problems
Ok here it goes, i had a 92 s that i totalled, found a 92 si that needed an engine. So i swapped them out, and the car ran great for months. then all the sudden it spuratically started to not start, no certain conditions apply, cold, average, and hot temps. so i changed the the fuel pump and the fuel filter from the s to the si, (i had changed them not too long bfore the wreck) so it worked and didnt have a prblem for a couple months. then out of the blue it started not starting again, wait 10 min and then it starts. so i ventured down to the auto parts store and got a new pump. thought everything was fine and then the same day i changed it, it happened again???? so i pulled the line in off the fuel filter and turned it over...no fuel...hmm guess its the fuel pump...well it could be a kinked line....remove the line coming out of the pump...so i took off the pressure bolt and turned it over and it spewed out...put it back on went to the front loosened the in line to the fuel filter again turned it over and tons of gas....what could it be then? so i put it back on and tried to start it and no fire...so i took off the in line and turned it over....no fuel. i also tested the fuel pump relay by using a jumper wire between the black and yellow, also no go. so my question is...fuel pump or not?
have you checked anythin ignition related? it seems like you are mainly having trouble with the fuel system, but you might also want to check the ignition components.
also, check all the lines between the fuel pump and the fuel filter. make sure there are no leaks anywhere in the lines, and check all the gaskets too. i have heard that the fuel system's gaskets (both rubber and crush-metal) go bad on hondas sometimes. try priming the fuel pump and look/smell for any gas that might be leaking.

well i changed the distributer cap and the "coil" a while back and thought that was going to take care of the problem, no go. looked for leaks not smelling any gas. thought about looking for kinks in the line but the thing about it is that why would it run just fine any other time. took the car out today and gave it hell and came home shut it off and started right back up, seems there is no certain condition that it only does it in..cause it has been smokin hot the past week and also today, it has did it lots this week but none today, getting ready to go out and work on it now, prolly just going to take out the fuel pump and get a new one, gotta love the lifetime warranty will let ya know if anything comes up....like i said not sure keep ideas coming. checked the fuel pump relay yesterday no go, i will look at the scematics and see were the main relay is??
both the main relay and ignitor in the distrubutor (not part of the cap) will cause the symptoms you describe. In my case it ended up being the ignitor. Search around as there are plenty of topics on this issue. Good luck.
ok the ignitor is the little finned block with one plug going to it on the fender well right? that was my next choice to change per what my chiltons says, i just found my factory shop manuals from honda so i am going to look at the possibilities, where is the main relay located? i already changed the whole distributer. not just the cap but the distributer and what would be the "coil" that is close to it.
I have the same exact non starting problem with my 92 prelude si. It won't start only in the summer (has always started in the winter). At first, it will start then die off and shut off, then after trying to start it after that, it won't start until I wait about 10min. If I do try to start it and it doesn't start, and I leave it at Start III on the ignition, the park light will be on, but the Drive light will also be blinking. I haven't done anything about it yet. Its been doing this since I had a used japenese engine put in since the other original engine died.

ok before you start throwing money at the problem do me a favor and listen up.
To check the main relay. try to start your car when it wont start do this test. turn your ignition to the on position your check engine light should go on for 2 sec then turn off. if it does not go off it is your main relay.(which controls fuel pump and ignition). if the light does not go off kick or hit the left lower side of the dash (I know it sounds nuts) hit the dash like down by your knees. the check engine light might flicker and might shut off. when the light shuts off the car should start fine.
go buy your self a main relay if this is the problem.
