They are almost the same, but if you use the ecu that came from the car you are getting the engine from you stand to gain 22 hp. Also try and get the tranny too, its a much better upgrade.
Engine, Tranny and ECU would be what I would try and snag from his car. Other than that you wouldnt need anything.

alright, i like that. he said i can have everything from the windshield, forward. the motor is all stock with 150k miles on it, with the 5 speed
. so its just unplug, remove, install, plug and go?

this couldnt be a more perfect first swap to do. it all will work without modification. and you get much more familiar with whats going on under that hood. this is pretty much the same way i got started on toyota trucks 10 years ago. learn how it all works, then modify the hell out of it!
we are in the process of getting everything unplugged, and we cant figure out how to get the sensor next to the oil filter off...it has 2 wires coming out of it. can anyone help?

Why are you taking that out? Do you mean you can't get the black boot around it off? It takes some WD40 and a little tugging. Just don't pull on the wires to get it off. The boot will slide off.

we need to get it off so the motor will come out, its part of the wire harness. im pretty sure that is the last thing we need to get off so we can pull the motor.
alright, update time.
we got both motors out, finally haha. stayed up all night, but we got it. going to grab something to eat, then come back and put them in. pics coming soon...
