Replacing ECU, PR2 or PM6?
I currently have a 91 Rex with a SOHC ZC running a chipped PM6, that is the way I bought her (gotta love super cheap deals and theft recovery buyout programs). The ECU was giving off codes 1, 9, 10, and 13, and the motor ran exceptionally rough at low idle and very rich all the time. I have troubleshot the actual components within the electrical system and motor itself and all seem to point at the cheap no-name chip on the ECU. I have swapped it temporarily with an OEM stock PM6 and she runs much better with no codes what so ever, but I would like to stay as minimal as possible with the electronic system as I can.
I am curious to know if keeping the stock PM6 or going to a PR2 (the actual ZC EDM ECU) would be the most advantageous regarding mileage and the ability to pass smog. Please keep in mind, I am not in the Honda game for power or speed, so any input regarding 1/4 times and top end power do not interest me. Thanks fellas!

Well I would suggest if your pm6 is already chipped(and you can swap out the ebay chip) get some one to burn you a chip for a ZC, probably cost you $20 or so, cheaper and easier than tracking down a new ecu unless you already have one...check out http://www.xenocron.com chris could hook you up with a stock chip for a ZC
I would prefer to get away from a chipped unit if at all possible. My personal experience with those things are more performance related, not something I am interested in at this time (but possibly in the future). My primary concern is maintaining a somewhat stock appearance and performance specs on the motor currently installed (it was not my idea to swap the OEM HF motor, but I will run what I have up front for now).
Thank you, Loserkidwac, I did take a look at the site you reccomended, http://www.xenocron.com, but that is quite a bit for a stock ECU. I know a few people here at H-T, EBay and Civic4g that are selling stock ECUs (PM6) for between $10-50 plus shipping.
I also noticed PM7 and PG7 available for the ZC dependant on the source (random web sites, performance sites, EBay)... can anybody tell me the difference and original applications for these as well as whether they would work well with my SOHC versus the PM6?

Well if you get someone to burn you a stock bin you pm6 will act just like a stock ZC ecu, I had my PM6 setup with a chip for my turbo setup then when i went back to stock I just put back in the stock chip and now I have a chip for my B18 turbo setup...I don't know I just think it is easier and less hassel than getting a seperate ecu, http://www.pgmfi.org has alot of info on Honda ecu's but just to make sure you understand but I was saying get a chip burned with the STOCK fuel and spark maps and your pm6 will be a PM7, PG7, PR2 or whatever you want it to be
Sweet, I will look into that.
But that still leaves the unanswered question... What ECU/programming should I aim for with OEM SOHC ZC performance in mind? There is alot of conflicting information on whether to use the PM6, PR2, PG7, or PM7.

Your running multipoint instead of the stock dual point I take it?
I have an 89 std hatch. I swapped in a D15B7, upgraded to multipoint. Running new injectors from a B18A1, intake, header, external coil. I'm running a Nippon stage2 cam. The cam's from an A6, so we advanced it out to compensate for the diff and advanced for performance.
I'm running a PM6 comp from an Si and a dizzy from an Si. Needed to shave the ears on the dizzy to advance the timing enough. The PM6 is the best I have found. IMHO. for a hot little road car. If I raced it I might consider something more, but I drive this ride to work each day. I smoked a mostly stock 90 teg recently..
Look into your cam timing and ignition timing. IMHO run the PM6. But I'm a noob so..

A SOHC ZC is going to run fine on a virgin PM6 ECU, especially the '90-91 A09 revision with the 7500 RPM rev limiter. Just use what you already have. It's not a problem.
