Just wondering if any of you guys have heard of or done any business with MHR down by Garden Grove, CA? I took my car in for a full rebuild back in late May and as of mid July my car still isn't finished. It's been almost 2 months now and I just wanted to know if it really takes that long to do a full rebuild on an H22. Please feel free to chime in.
Work being done and parts being installed:
-remove/install engine and drivetrain
-tear down, inspect and itemize all parts
-blueprint, balance and final assembly
-port and polish head, new valve seals, multi angle valve job, resurface, hot tank, assembly, titanium retainers, stiffer springs
-head gasket
-bottom end gasket kit
-oil pump
-bearings
-special machine work for frm sleeves (bore and hone)
-misc machine work, hot tanking
-Euro-R camshafts
-Euro-R Intake Manifold (was modified to bolt-on by 2point6)
-Fidanza Cam Gears
-P28 ECU w/ Hondata S300 (socketed for "plug 'n play" by hondata)
-RC Injectors
-Supertech Valvetrain with Valves
-Type-S Pistons (OS .25mm) w/ rings
-ES Motor Mount Inserts
-OEM Timing Belt
-Cam Seals

Give them a call and ask.
Do they do their own machine work? If not, then maybe their machine shop is behind. I have seen that happen a few times at shops.

Ya, everytime i call him he keeps saying, "it'll be ready in two weeks." No, he doesn't have his own machinery so he sends it out to the machine shop. I just figured 2months is a little too long...
I'd show up there in person and ask to see what theyve gotten done so far. Maybe theyre just busy but its bunk when people tell you that it'll be ready every time you call. I've been in that same situation plenty of times waiting for parts be delivered.

yeah, thats pretty sketchy. the engine could be out and torn all aprt in a day, then send the block out, get it back and spend a few more days putting it back together.
did you supply them with all the parts or are you letting them handle it?

Complete builds take a while. Machine work alone can take an easy 8-12 weeks. The worst thing as a customer you can do is ride the place's ***. With these types of builds small things can always pop up and end up taking the whole build process longer than originally anticipated.

so how long you think I should wait before it becomes a serious problem? When I last talked to him, he said that the block came out of the machine shop and it's done. All he has to do now is finish up the head (valve job, P&P) and reassemble the engine.

he's the only one working (if not, then with one other person) at his shop, so he pretty much does all the work (except for machine work). I'm pretty sure he's working on other cars when he tells me he was just working on mine. I just thought why take so long to work on several cars when you can just work on one at a time and finish them quickly...

Exactly. Right now I have about 5 builds in process.

I am 500miles away and I am in school. He told me 2 weeks, I gave him 4 months. The car should've came out with no problems, no excuses.
