see all that nastyness in there, all the dirt and grime and oil and wd40 and grease.

is there a way i can clean up that area safely so that i dont damage the seal or anything around it?

any tips would be much appriciated.

i would use carb cleaner, after u clean it spray a little wd40 in it so the carb cleaner dosent dry the bearing and seal out

should i add grease to the seal once its been cleaned?

i have a really strong engine cleaner (gunk), do you think it would harm the seal?

 

I wouldnt use any kind of solvent near the bearings, just use a pressure washer and some soap with a stiff brush

 

brake cleaner

 

brake/carb cleaner, with a tooth brush

 

just a toothbrush
