Timing belt went out?
Hey guys.. i was crusing on the highway and turned off onto a road by my house and coasted to the stop sign, then when i looked down my car had stalled out. Tried to start it back up and it just spins over. I was going to replace the timing belt next weekend, my 'teg just hit 96,000 miles a couple days ago and i don't think its been changed. I'm hoping alls it is is the timing belt- does that sound right?
Did it just stall, or did it make any noise?shutter at all? anything??
It could be a lot of different things. Not to be an ***, but you sure you did not run it out of gas?

Well, I've never broken a timing belt *knocks on wood*. But I believe when it would snap, your rpm's would just it zero and your car would die. I dont think it would stall slowly and die.
When you tried to start it, did your rpm needle move at all?

haha, no, i didn't run it out of gas.
I don't know if it made a noise or not, a/c was on along with the radio. and like i said - i coasted from the highway about 50feet before i came to a stop and noticed it was dead.
but given that i've got 96,000 on my timing belt - is it more than likely that?

Yeah, in this case pull the valve cover off and look at it. I think they recommend to change it at around 90k. I've known people to go longer and not have problems.

I left all my tools at work (figures) otherwise i'd check to see if i had spark 'n **** like that. I'm 90% sure its my timing belt, I just wanted some feedback from people with experience

dude check your timing belt. if you're to lazy to take off the valve cover then put a 19mm to the crank bolt and use a driver and rotate it. if it just rotate freely with out any force then yes your belt did snap but if you have to use force to rotate your crank pully and you hear whisping nose from your head then your belt did not snap.

hey, dousche bag
i didn't ask how to check, i was asking a simple question of whether it sounds like it could be the timing belt or not.
I have NO tools at my house what-so-ever. Not everyone has a 19mm wrench or socket lying around their house.

Ahh whats up with the attitude. If you wana be a bitch fine then, You know what there's tons of things that could cause your car to die out, ignition, fuel, **** load and this whole time you keep asking people if its your timing belt. well how the crap would we know if its your timing belt, non of us is litterly there to tell you, only you can tell if its your timing belt we cant, so go check it if you're so consern about it. You could of had a power surge and blew a fuse somewhere because like you said you had the radio on and ac etc and all that takes electrical power. Well sorry mister I figure you have tools because you said you were going to replace it next weekend so you'll need tools to do that.
The problem with a Roll start is that "if" his Timing belt is snap then when he goes to put it in gear and the crank rotate then the belt is going to get chew up by the lower gear and it'll be a big mess.
