Default Hitch on the Type R?

So I did some searching, and found that people have done this before. Draw-Tite makes one ( http://www.draw-tite.com/fitgu...24589 ) that is supposed to fit well, but may need some modification depending on the size of your exhaust (running stock right now with the hytech going back on when i get it back). Hidden Hitch also has one ( http://www.hiddenhitch.com/fit...60737 ) that is supposed to be pretty coo'

I was thinking of doing this so I can tow my bike to and from the track. Trying to arrange rides or renting a uhaul trailer becomes a PITA.

So my questions are:

- good idear, bad idear? ?
- any hitch better than the other? stealth factor, installation, ?
- will this hurt my car o_O

Thanks

try trailerhitchusa.com

Had by far the best prices and very good customer service. They specialize in hidden hitch. I think mine was $85, no cutting or wleding, straight bolt on.

I was going to put one on my car for the bike purpose but did not for a couple reasons.

- main reason: hitch mounts intefered with my exhaust (might not be case for others)

- lesser reasons: if you get rear-ended, bikes are done; and the overall weight balance puts a lot of wear on rear bushings, blah blah

...

I still like them though, but could not do it. So, I now put my bikes on a roof rack if the car is filled.

My buddy Brent that had the Type-R stolen from Microsoft Campus had a hitch on his Type-R. He would pull a trailer big enough to fit four jack stands, two high speed jacks, all his tools and eight tires with wheels and drug it down to Bremerton for the Auto Cross's.

I also know of a guy that used to pull his Sea Do to Lake Taps in his GS-R quite frequently. Those things got to be at least 300lbs.

Unfortunately, we didn't get a load rating with the sale of our cars. Chevy and Ford do it with their trucks...wtf

I've been considering throwing a hitch on my R as well

Oh...motorized. 400 lbs...tongue weight is something like 100 lbs for an Integra I think. The overall load isn't much either. I'd check the manual for that.

Here's D's post on towing with his ITR. He's got a bike on the trailer in one pic and old Mini in the other!

The CRX owners manual doesn't explicitly say not to do it though...
A beater car is cheaper then a new LSD..

IIRC, Rob obtained a hitch for his ITR. You might want to ask him about it on ITRCA, since he frequents that forum far more often.

I'll have to check my ITR owner's manual in the morning to verify, but I don't recall it explicitly stating not to tie a motorcycle to the roof.

In other news, my post was in jest, as the perfect opportunity arose to use that insane pic.

i ordered the hidden hitch a few weeks back from JCWhitney, they had the best price, although it;s taken a freakin long time to get here I also ordered the plug in wireharness that plugs into the lgihts so no splicing wires.
I also whipped up a small light weight trailer, just big enough for my ATV.

I got tired of waiting on friends for use of a truck lol. Not just for the ATV, but motors, parts, building supplies ect...

it was either that or switch cars

I've had the draw-tite class I on my '97 for two years and it's fine. Plus, they're only about $90. It's really not that obtrusive and the install is really easy because you don't have to drill; everything bolts on.

However, if you're still running the stock exhaust, you'll need to hack out a strip about a 1/2" wide and 1.5" inches from closest corner to the muffler or you'll get some terrible vibration. Keep in mind that as the engine and exhaust hangers heat up, the entire exhaust system shifts back about an inch towards the hitch.

For what it's worth, I don't trail anything, just a mountain bike rack.

thanks for the feedback everyone

trying to decide if i want to throw this on the type r (under the type r... no bikes are being stuck on the top!) or onto the volvo. relying on others can get frustrating, i ended up just riding my bike to the track this weekend

it's that, or i can do like my buddies did, and pick up a big van from the 70's for 500 bucks that gets 8mpg to tow two bikes wish i had pics of this monstrosity...

For what you spend on a decent trailer and a hitch; a cheap old toyota pickup or something is around the same price. I had a 95 s10 I picked up for $100 that I used for my bikes and quad.
