ZC Doch vs. Soch Vtec
so im looking to drop a nice little cheap peppy swap on my 90 dx crx...i was think either a doch zc or soch vtec which cost about the same n labor on swap costs about the same....which motor do you guys think would be a better choice?
Doch? Double Over Cam Heads? Theres 2 heads for every cam?
Or did you mean DOHC? lol.
Seriously, though, I'd go with the DOHC ZC cause 2 cams are always better than 1

i have personaly had 2 dif. crx's with both motors u are talkin about...
1. 89 crx SI with state reffed d16z6 with I/H/E
2. 88 crx si (currently have) with DOHC ZC i/h/e/under drive pully/fuel rail
i took the zc to the track and it ran a 15 flat, i never ran the d16z6 motor but i would say that motor felt about the same as the zc.... so either way ur going to get a nice power dif. from ur stock motor.. i would say if u wana do many mods go SOHC v-tec cuz parts are cheap/easier to get.. dohc zc's u have to find parts like cams and **** and its exspensive... but i gota say i love my zc.. i have had NO problems with it

i currently have a z6 in a crx
i drove a dohc zc crx about a year ago and i would say the z6 had better topend
and the dohc zc had slightly better low end
the dohc zc is easier to wire up

ya cuz there straight bolt ins only thing u have to change is ur dizzy wiring (get the jumper from rywire) and u have to wire the cam angle sensor (2 wires)and u also have to get a integra upper rad. hose

whats this horeshit? if you want a CHEAP upgrade, get the zc.
if yoiu want a ton of aftermarket parts and support, get the Z6, and its just as easy to drop in.

Depends on whether you are willing to do the SOHC VTEC swap properly or not. If you refuse to convert to OBD-1, then you're better off with the DOHC ZC. If you are willing to do an OBD-1 conversion without halfassing it, then go ahead and do the SOHC VTEC swap.

Umm . . . a stock B16A doesn't put down anywhere near 150whp, and neither does a D16Z6 with just DOHC ZC pistons.

[literal question]How are 2 cams better than one?[/literal question]
Have you ever stopped to think about these type of regurgitated statements? If I can get 1 piece of spinning metal to do what 2 pieces of spinning metal to do, I gain efficiency, all else being equal, through the loss of friction and rotating weight. The design of the sohc is pretty clever...
The dohc zc has a lack of aftermarket support. Cams, as I understand it, are limiter to regrinds and ol-skool hks pieces, which weren't spectacular to begin with. availability of replacement parts should be a factor as well. Let's say, you blow a head gasket on a top-speed run... you take the head to the local machinist, and mill the head flat. let's say the head is warped out of spec. you'll need to search much harder for a replacement than you would otherwise. plus, the head you end up getting is older and typically has more miles than it's counterpart. the z6 heads are PLENTIFUL! Good luck on whatever you chose, and let us know how it goes!

with intake header and exhaust and tuned they do
also you could do the sohc swap w/ zc pistons and tune it with BRE on an obd0 pr3 ecu and def get just under 150WHP dont listen to them ive seen it
