If SPEED TV did a show about JPM's transition to NASCAR would you watch?
If SPEED TV did a show about Juan Pablo Montoya's transition from F1 to NASCAR would you watch?
Training, Testing, Pre-Race, Race, Post Race....
I think it's an interesting idea.

I'd watch it, although I think if the situation were flipped (some NASCAR driver going to F1), it would be even more interesting!

I want to see Jeff Gordon switch to F1. That would really raise my interest.

But Yes, I would watch it. I do agree with being more likely to watch a popular NASCAR driver like Gordon switch to F1.

But you don't live in Pittsburgh
To get Speed, I'd have to pay for digital cable and add on Speed as an extra channel - on top of basic and extended service. I can't afford $10,000 a month just to watch one channel. Why can't they make it part of the basic cable package

Our local newspaper, with a noticable NASCAR leaning, seems to be making a bigger deal of "the first Hispanic NASCAR driver" than the fact that he is coming from F1.
I had heard some time ago that NASCAR marketing wanted to increase their Hispanic audience.

Man, I'd be all over that coverage. And I don't even like the guy.
Joan Paula and NASCAR has a guaranteed audience for this type of show. It'll be all the racing world will talk about for the whole NASCAR season. I'm sure Bernie will love answering questions about Joan Paula now.

they replayed "trading paint" last night - my wife was pissed that i would rather watch that (it was tivoed...) than knock boots... needless to say i'd watch coverage of the transition.
They did discuss the possibility of having such a show in the F1 practice coverage, but that was just the announcer's opinion, not official word from speed.

I know I would, only if I got Speed in here.
But Fox Sports Latin America would probably do a similar show, as they are the channel that airs F1, NASCAR, CART and WRC in here

I remember seeing an interview where Gordon said he was past his prime to make a switch to F1. But he had a hell of a time driving the Williams car!
A side note, i overheard some redneck women NASCAR fans (I live in Texas) talking about, and I quote, "some new guy name Said racing in Nascar now. He basically bought his way into racing through several racing schools and now is starting his own team under the No Fear name." I wanted to interrupt her and tell her that Boris Said is a seasoned and well-accomplished race car driver that's been everywhere, literally. I've seen him race everything including the Tonka sponsored semi trucks on Speed one time. He actually won the event as well! And he's been hired to drive NASCAR cars on road courses many times. But oh well... I minded my own business...

At least in Nascar they pass on the track! They are just different, one isnt superior to the other.

Three years ago I would have said you were wrong, but as I've watched more racing than is healthy, I now say you've hit it square on.
Now, as far as JPM saying he would like to race the "better drivers", as I heard from one interview, that's total bull. However, pit stop and strategy wise, Nascar has fantastic crews and chiefs. Not that F1 crews are lacking, but a Nascar crew of 7 changes 4 tires (20 lugnuts!) and fuels in almost the same time as a F1 crew of no less than 15 (with 1 lug per wheel).
Nascar also has more passing and fuel strategy problems.

JPM is just sour because he's not as successful as he thought he would be. (and I'm sure many other things that we don;t see behind the scenes...)

Eh, not so much. The limiting factor in F1 is how much fuel they can put in. It takes a little over 3 seconds to change just the tires and at around 6 seconds into an F1 pitstop there's about 15 gallons of fuel in the car. Figure another second to get the car off the jacks and actually away.
NASCAR regs simply don't permit that kind of speed in a pit stop. As a result, a comparable pit stop is as much as 10+ seconds slower. 10 seconds is "almost" to you and I changing tires in our garages but not in racing and certainly not in F1.

Hell ya !! Go Steelers !!! A friend of mine from High School plays for the Steelers now. He played QB back in HS in a little town out in SW VA. He now plays TE for Pittsburgh. You might have heard of him , Heath Miller !!
I really could give a rats *** on F1 and Nascar. They both blow azz. Euro Snobs vs Rednecks.
All I gotta say is GO WRC !!!!

F1 refuel is 12 liters or 3.17 gallons a second.
6 seconds or actual refueling would be 18+ gallons.
This past GP (French), Ferrari was in and out of the pit box in 6.5 seconds with a 4 second refuel and 3.5 second tire change.
