I just bought a 92 vx w/ a 98 ls motor with 52,000 miles...when i start it up in the morning after its been sitting all night it knocks for like 2 seconds...but it sounds like as soon as it gets oil to the head it stops....it runs fine and sounds great all day...it just happens on a truly cold startup. Is my oil pump going out???is this normal for ls motors???

 

well all motors take a second to get oil to the head on intial start up, thus you get a knock out the motor for a few seconds... in normal terms its ok... nothing major my motor does it...

 

I was wanting to know the exact thing. Mine does it too, I have a 93 civic with a 98 ls engine.

If I start t up and immediately start moving it stops.. and doesnt come back until it gets really cold again.. I cant figure it out.

I figure its no big deal, my mechanic dad said he wouldnt worry about it

Oh and how long does it take for your oil light to go off? Mine takes maybe 2-3 seconds sometimes. My girl's ex with a 1.6l turns off immediately.

 

it is normal for the motor to act this way in the morning one thing that you can try is to get an oil filter with a check valve in it this will help keep all the oil from draining back into the block and aid in quicker oiling of the head. I know that Amsoil has this type of filter I am not sure who else.
