Default Can the clutch cable strech?

He's the proplem: Car cold shifts fine. Car warms up I have to fight to get in to first, second or reverse. REALY WARM i have to shut off the car toss it in to gear and then go. I'v adjusted the nylon nut on the cable. The it will work fine even when hot. BUT if i've been driving for a few hours like today it starts acting up again then I have to tighten the nut down again. And i've marked the thread cus i thought the nut was just sliping (also taped it) I was thinking of replacing the cable, do you think this may solve my problem? Oh and when it's hot/warm I have to match engine speed to trany speed in order to shift. Anyhow I can't drive the car i have the bolt as tight as i can get it and still cant get it into gear. Sorry for rambling on and on i've had 3 hours sleep in the last two days g'night

maybe you need to change the oil on the tranny. Either that or the clutch is showing signs of wear. Could not always be the clutch, the flywheel might be in bad shape already.

I replaced the tranny oil less then a month ago. Is that nylon nut the only adjustment point? in my 88 shop guide it shows adjustments at the pedals. But there's none on my

i think there is an adjustment on the other side of the pedal itself, near the firewall as well as the one at the other end of the cable.

i could be wrong...

but sometimes i have the same issue when its really hot, but only with first gear. it helps if you depress the pedal and go into other forward gears, and back to neutral, release the pedal and do it again a few times. a real pain at stop lights with people waiting behind you...

my clutch grips ok.. maybe slipping a little bit, but its hard to say at this point. tranny oil is fine, pedal feels ok, it just doesn't like the gear.

i'm going to replace the clutch pretty soon anyway. any recommendations?

the cable can and will expand when its hot... but you don't want to tighten it too much, you can ruin a good clutch that way.

Your cable, without the pedal depressed should be snug, but not tight.

Grab the cable just above the nylon nut and pull up(Not with all your strength). There should be very little movement about 1/8" to 1/4" between the bracket and the nut. Try this first.

There is no more movment anymore. There used to be, but it seemed like everytime i drove it i'd have to tighten up the cable.
