Remote start in Swapped Civic
Hey hows it going... Ive searched and havent come up with anything.
Hey hows it going... i own a civic... and i would like to put remote stat on it. Yes its a 5 speed, and yes i know in california where i live its illegal. That's alright though. My question is does anybody know if its a bad thing to do, or would it give theives easier access on my car?? Also... how would i do this, i have all the wiring... just not so sure how to by pass the clutch?? I heard just teeing off the wires on the clutch switch would work to do that... is that true?? Thx.

As an installer, DO NOT DO IT.
I do not know of any reputable shops that would put a remote start on a 5 speed. I've seen it done, and I've seen alot of cars "launch" because the parking brake was not used.
It's easy to do, regardless, all you have to do is bypass the safety switch on the alarm and bypass the clutch.
I won't get into that here, simply find you an installer on the side and ofer him some extra cash to do it.
Our guys where I work all have it done on their cars, and most of the have "launched" the cars. What the problem is, when they lend their car to a sister or girlfriend, they borrower leaves the car in gear, or doesnt use the e-brake. When they go remote start it, the car takes off.
It can be dangerous. The car could launch and injure a bystander, child, or a pet. And lets not forget the car when it comes to a rest against a lightpole/building/or another car.
If you do do it, just be prepared to accept the responsibilities for your actions.

How the hell would that work! Hondas are good and all but not that smart! Just don't do it, bye bye starter and if you launch her into a pole you are really gonna regret that

there's a saftey switch on teh clutch (higher up on the pedal), jump that and it'll start fine once installed... I wouldn't recommend it because of the reasons stated above...of course ur not going to see me out there w/ a pickket sign like some of these guys
"Just think if a kid walked by your car and it was in gear when you remote

I mean lol @ that...
But yeah, it's kinda dangerous..you might hurt your car, only thing I can say is get in the habbit of using the e-brake and neutral to put it to a stop :-\ But there's a reason I don't recommend that for one reason.. In winter time, when you want to start your car in the cold to warm it up, sometimes ice forms up on the e-brake cable during the night and when you start ur car everything's good and dandy and u put the e-brake down and the light shuts off and everything but the brake's still on, I've seen people wear out their brakes really bad in winter time because even if the rear brakes are on 20% you won't notice it in the drive but it'll wear down the pads..
So that's how u buypass the "neutral saftey switch" aka. "clutch switch" - but like I said, I wouldn't recommend it on a standard - especially for the reasons above...
"It can be dangerous. The car could launch and injure a bystander, child, or a pet. And lets not forget the car when it comes to a rest against a lightpole/building/or another car."
Lmao, you guys g2 grow up, what's wrong with u?? Bunch of 40 year old guys with morals and **** that drive honda civics with souped up turbo charged engines but claim they don't beat on it nor break the speed limit and flame everybody that does...there's something seriously wrong with the general population here on H-T, either they're liars or messed up in the head...
Wow
EDIT:
In any event, it's your call, PM me if u need help bypassing that clutch switch that everybody on h-t is against you doing, I've did many of them for people with leg problems that couldn't always push the clutch all the way down - illegal or not, did it to my probe just b/c the winters up here when ur legs are covered 2 ft in snow and you don't feel like putting ur legs in the car it's easier just to sit in and start when it needs to warm up for a bit, then bang ur foot on the sideskirt afterwords - a lot easier..It is illegal though..but it may not be that big a deal, but if it jumps into a poll or hits somebody not only will they sue your *** (the great american way) but you'll have to pay for the damage done to ur car when their *** goes through your bumper :-\

Actually, I'm 32.
While not turbo charged, I do have a crv-tec in one crx and a B16 in another. The B16 is a work in progress, while the crv-tec is my "playtoy".
I drive a stock dx eg hatch to work everyday.
To add, I've been driving for 15 years....with no moving violations. It's called responsibilty. You're 18, I would'nt expect you to TRULY undestand what that means just yet. No insult intended.
Now, imagine it like this:
You leave the car with the parking brake on, and in neutral. Everyday, religiously. Everytime. Well, the cute girl at work asks to borrow your car run to the store real quick. She comes back and gives you the keys. Well, after you clock out, you go, remote start the car, and head outside.
Well, the car is not where she said she left it. In fact, it is now sitting 30 feet away......resting in another car, or a light pole, or that cure girl who borrowed the car and was walking across the lot.
I'v seen it happen where I work. Everyone I know who has it admits to doing it at least once.
If you do happen to do it, even accidently (sp?), YOU will be held responsible for any damages. Simple as that.
Do what you want to do, but, just like speeding or spirited driving late on a Saturday night...think about your surroundings and the people around you...

No . . .
No . . .
I am also an installer, and they make units made just for manual transmission cars.
Example theres one by ultrastarter I ussed personally in my car and to arm the remote start you have to have the motor running, put the car in netural release the clutch set the parking brake, hit the brake pedal twice then remove the key.
The engine will continue to run until you exit the car and shut the doors.
Now theres no way the car can be in gear when you remote start it again.
(less you reach in thro an open window or some stuiped thing like that and put it back in gear)
And to bypass the clutch dont (%^$#%^#$%) with the wiring on the switch that is one of the most retarded things I keep hearing on this forum and its pissing me off like you wouldent belive. The relay for the starter is on the left side of the floor board there look up the wire color and you simply tap into it there. No bypasing **** you still have your safety feature while you actually start the car yourself and can use the remote start.
Its actually easier, safer, and faster to do this right. I simply dont understand why people get creative on how to do something half assed.

The reason is so that you dont' have to pay out the *** for some super system where you can just buy a piece of wire to jump it and take the chance...

THis is exactly what I"m talking about though::
"I do have a crv-tec in one crx and a B16 in another. The B16 is a work in progress, while the crv-tec is my "playtoy".
I drive a stock dx eg hatch to work everyday.

CRV-Tec, built B16...yet ya never break the law, right? Well I haven't been driving for 15 years, I've been driving for a 1/4 of that time w/ almost 4 years with NO recording violations either... I see no purpose in building a super engine if ur just going to do the speed limit, not race, not beat on it, etc. so I guess you got me there.. I have no problem pushing my friend's viper up to 150-160 on interstate highway when it's like 2 in the morning and there's no cars around...no I don't do it on some sideroad where there's a chance of kids playing or something, so I guess it's responsability in different levels...that's the only thing I can say...:-\ I have no problem breaking the speed limit, but I also know what my car's limits are handling/braking wise....and that's usually with lightly modded cars..
I hvae to go back to my original statement, what's the purpose of building a built *** expensive ****** engine if ur not going to speed, or break the speed limit, or even go WOT w/ the way some of u guys explain it...it just doesn't make sense, ****, if u guys have that much $ to throw away, I'll give u my paypal account and you can throw it away to me....what's the difference? You have some high compression super turbo charged engine that you drive the same as ur CX, then I really don't see a point...
And I see your point about the clutch switch - like I told him I recommend that he doesn't do it, but if he wants to that really is his decision and I'm not going to try to persuade him otherwise :-\ Like I said, I disabled it on my probe because when u have 3 ft of snow on the ground, and u have to clear snow away jsut to open the doors, I rather not have to sit in it and get snow all over the floor when I start it up, but with remote start you're talkin different story because in my situation I just took it out of gear and reached and started it - I"m actulally there, but if I was to hook it up to my car (which I just might because I'm moving further north) I'm going to hook mine up with a saftey switch so it doesn't start unless the car is in neutral, I'll find a way to do it, don't say it's impossible, because I'll find a way and then throw it in ur face :-\
Or maybe it's just because I've lived in NY all my life so I'm not lazy to the point where I don't go outside to shovel my deck & start my car instead of starting it nice and warm outside like some other people....
Iono, I guess to apoint every single thing in this whole conversation/thread is variable ot the person and situation so there aren't any clear cut answers..

how the expletive would having a remote start make ice form up on the ebrake cable, whats one thing got to do with another?? I personaly have remote start on my 5 speed civic and love it!
Of course before I even bought I started the habit of leaving the car in neutral and pulling the e-brake. I have been doing this for the last 2 winters (In Wyoming) and never had problems with my brake freezing..
Some people in this thread might say that my install was not done correctly (clutch switch) but it has worked fine so far...
Yes, I installed it myself and have never "launched" my car!
If someone else drives my car (very rare) then I don't use remote start.

for everyone that lets other people drive their car if you let someone borrow your car, dont show them how to remote started. They dont even have to know you have remote start.
ok im not worried about jumping it into someone elses ride... i dont have short term memory, and my e brake works great... not worried about it freezing over here in california. im aware that its illegal and i will have to be held responsible. now with that in mind... who can tell me exactly how to by pass the clutch... i dont need to by pass it on the alarm, i just need to bypass it on the clutch right?? theres the clutch switch on the bottom of the clutch... cant i just cut thewires splice them together, and the switch will be bypassed... right?? or is there something else i can do??
yes there are two sensors on your clutch, one for cruise control and one for clutch engagement, i believe for the remote start to work and bypass the neutral safety switch it is the upper sensor, correct me if im wrong somebody. Anyway to bypass simply splice the wires together or use the old paperclip trick, and bam, no long need to depress clutch to start, just be careful and don't forget to take it outta gear!

I would look into the ones made specifically for manual transmisisons. At my job, we sell DEI (Viper), and I am unaware of any product they make that fits your needs.
Now, some of our guys use magnetic sensors on the shift linkage/shifter that prevents launching. Still, it's just not my cup of tea.
As for the built engines that don't get beaten on everyday, well, that a whole 'nother topic.

Absolutely wrong buddy, that will also disable the safety switch permanetly which you dont want to do.
THE RIGHT WAY TO DO IT IS - First find your "starter cut relay" its on the left side of your dash more under the dash behind the carpet there next to your left foot. There should be at least one other relay mounted to the same location
The wiring should be black/white x2, Blue/black, and a black/red.
The black/white will goto two terminals of the relay.
Simply tie into the Black/Red wire of the harness of the relay. That wire goes DIRECTLY to the starter so your basicly bypassing all the safety switches by hooking up after them rather than disabling them. Also its easy to get at, easier IMO than the switch everyone insists on tampering with.
This was taken from a 97 del sol wiring diagram. The colors should be the same on any other car, I can look it up for ANYONE who wants for a diffent yr of car to be certain.

The reason is so that you dont' have to pay out the *** for some super system where you can just buy a piece of wire to jump it and take the chance...</TD></TR></TABLE>
The system I use ULTRASTARTER is the same price for the manual starter compared to one for an automatic. There is no price difference between the units. I cant say the same for other manufactures but for them thats the case.

how the expletive would having a remote start make ice form up on the ebrake cable, whats one thing got to do with another?? It doesnt matter if you have remote start or not, if the ice is going to form on the ebrake cable it will, so could you please explain why you wouldnt recommend a remote start for that reason? you make no sense</TD></TR></TABLE>
Wow, you honestly know nothing about cars...it has nothing to do with teh remote start, it has to do with leaving ur e-brake up in winter time...maybe u live in CA or something and odn't have to worry about snow 'n **** but in NY you have to, it's a different story...so it comes down to this: don't leave ur e-brake up in winter time (overnight, when parked, whenever), it's okay to pull up to stop for 10 minuts, but don't leave it like that for hours...becaue there's tons of slush and **** on the roads, lots of times snow and ice get up into ur undercariage, and if it gets aorund the e-brake cable (like I've seen MANY times) and then you pull up the e-brake, it freezes, u drop the e-brake, think everything's fine, and ur really dragging the back brakes...and don't tell me it doesn't happen because I've seen it too many ******* times...

Well I had to get in on this too. In Cananda, DEI makes a part that will enable you to remote start your car that has a manual. Heres how it works; when you are ready to park your are you press a button in the transmitter which works sort of like a turbo timer, so you pull your key out, get out of your car (at this point the car is still running) and lock your doors, once the doors lock the car shuts down. Now you can remote since you had to pull your car out of gear to get out of it and lock the door via remote. Or you could hook up a magntic switch one of your shifter below the boot, and build a bracket for the other half. Make it so when the car is in first it wont start. Hook a magntic switch up to the nuetural safety switch.
