whats up with all the tape on the lights?

 

so if you get an accident....

it will contain the bits of shrapnel from spraying all over the track....

but also to prevent getting chips and cracks from spraying debris

 

And in some cases
Lots of tape can be used to
Hold up the bumper

 

There are three reasons:

1) To prevent chips and pits (although I find this to be just as likely on the street)

2) To limit debri on the track in the event of an accident (hmm, if that happens, I think there just might be worse things on the track than little bits of plastic)

3) To make ricers feel cool

 

That would be the pansy-*** detection system. Bumpers especially turn blue when a pansy-*** is driving the car.

 

How would you appreciate driving through someone else's glass on racing slicks?

I suppose I wouldn't like glass... good thing it's just plastic on most cars these days.

Wow. Nice job on the repair... it definately looks a lot better.

 

Dude, glass is just clear gravel. It won't do anything to race tires.

I'd rather drive through a bunch of little shards then hit a big hunk all taped together.

It is a vanity thing, not a safety thing. Much like the big X's taped on the windows in London during WWII: it was for a perception of safety and preparedness rather than actual safety. Made people feel warm and fuzzy that they are doing their part.

Besides, the lenses on that Integra are plastic.

Glass being "clear gravel" has nothing to do with safety. Does that make it safe? The rule is there to keep this "gravel" from spraying all over the track. Regardless of what it will or will not do to a tire, its not safe. A big hunk all taped together is safer due to the fact that you can see it. Were not the only ones on these tracks, there are also karts and bikes, and I know those guys dont want to go sliding across a bunch of pieces of "clear gravel".
