Default my modest gsr setup...but i need header advice.

on my 2001 gsr i have cam gears, itr cam shafts, and injen CAI. i just picked up a 00 usdm itr catback so i'm planning to slap that on this week.

the only other thing i want to do is get the DC 4-1 header. now, when i looked around for the headers, i saw that they have one for the 97-01 itr, and for the 00-01 gsr. does it matter which one i get? i'm guessing either model should fit my car and they are both the same price.

advice? TIA.

Headers are headers, at least for b-series. They're probably the same exact thing. I'd personally stay away from DC but it's your $$$$$

wrong...this guy sounds like hes headed in the all motor direction...so a header selection is VERY important and will definately play a role in his setup

+1

if you want to go cheap, get a JDM ITR knock off and 2.5" converter/test pipe

jus wait and save for a good header like rage, rmf, dtr and etc... it'll cost double or maybe triple the dc headers but its well worth it...

i think your block is obd2 which means regular headers wont fit on them. at least that was the problem with my 00 gsr. you have to buy headers that fit itr block. i suggest you save your money and wait to get these sms 4-2-1 headers. i heard it makes about 12 hp just from one part.

i'm a all motor guri, and it depends on your money situation..
for the best bang for your buck, with your cam shaft selection, 4-1 headers are goin to do it, at least a 2.5 '' collector, the primaries i would sugguest looking for 1.75'' - 2'', but look into getting exhaust piping bumped up to around 2.5 all the way back, toa different muffler at least, if u gotta do custom piping.. Remember you dont want any backpressure, you want as little as possible, you want more verocity flow...some key points, i could give u some more advice if u'd like but how deep are your pockets, cuz..

thanks for the replies.

man, my pockets are pretty shallow. i was going to finish the car off with headers and chill for AWHILE on spending on the car.

do you think custom piping is a MUST? because i already have the usdm itr catback and was just going to slap it on as is. from research, i comcluded that the DC 4-1 header was the best bang for the buck.

wrong, that header makes little to no power over stockand if you save only a little more money you could have a decent header. The best bang for your buck header is the jdm ITR 4-1. But if you can spend a little money i would reccomend either a profab, sparks or RMF

..jdm itr cant pass visuals in CA.. getting a good header is important for getting the most out of your motor if you are planning for n/a .. if you want a header that is carb leagal .. maybe the comptech 4-2-1 would be good .. if not, i suggest to save one or two more paychecks and get a real good one such as smsp, hytech, profab .. etc

If I'm not mistaken I think you have to get a header for an ITR to run it with the ITR cat back or it will come up short. I know the ITR and GSR exhausts are different lengths because I tried fitting that combination together myself, but now I can't remember which was shorter than the other.

i did some research on this too and found out hat the 00-01 gsr is the same length. the 94-99 is the one that is different.

well, R suggested that i get the 4-1, but black_DC4 suggests that i get the comptech 4-2-1.

i was planning to get the 4-1 cuz i only need high end power, but 4-2-1 might be fun also. does anyone have any reviews for comptech headers/products?
