Default Starter help

I bought a used started off a member here prolly close to two years ago to replace mine that was going out. Anyways, i just bought a jdm itr motor and I'm using the usdm itr tranny that I've had sitting around. I pulled the starter off my old gsr transmission and its different than the new one I have. I know that starters can look different but still be interchangable, but i need to know if THESE ONES are. TIA

Old one:

The lable is particaly unreadable but from what I can see is this:

DXD...
22800...
12v
2D Denso

New one:

The label reads:

Honda P2T
64S
SM-422 12
Mitsuba 12V-1.0
Japan

Also stamped on the back side is 42212

Pics of them side by side: (The new one has the longer shaft and is black)

Any help is greatly appreciated

the one with green on it with the longer shaft, looks exactally like my SOHC starters i have laying around. That other black bulky'er one looks like the B sereis starter i have on my shelf..... if that GSR one still works, put that one in. i think you got a SOHC starter with the other one. cant tell too much with those pics

have you tried bolting them up to see if it fits?.........the shaft is clearly longer you may run into some problems but if it bolts up and fits right ...you may have a winner

good luck

Thw starter bolts up to the transmission case but I haven't tried to put it in with the clutch/flywheel and tranny and motor all together. I'll go do that now.

Bump for anymore help
