What to do with 98ex and $2-4k
hey this is my first time posting on honda tech and i have a buddy with a 98 ex with the d16y8 its all stock but a header...long story short his oil pump went out and spun a bearing. Ill be doing the build but hes got 2,000-4,000 to spend and i dont know what would be the best way to go.....LS-Vtec,B18C1 or maybe just a b16....its not going to be a race car im just lookin for 200-250 hp....
Soo let me hear some thoughts

You obviously have no idea what that HP number means, and you won't be making it with the money you have availible unless you turbocharge another D16Y8. That's going to be your best bet for hitting a range of power that means utterly nothing, but a GSR motor with cams and a nice header will be much more reliable and probably better on gas.

Boosted D's still get pretty good gas mileage. As long as you don't stay in the boost all the time.
Your best bet would be to get a D16Z6, mildly build it, and boost it. It would be reliable and pretty damn quick.

But let's be honest here: You don't turbocharge your car to look at the intercooler
I don't know what it is about a blow-off valve, but it's more addicting than crack cocaine

Me i prefer boost but like i said its my friends car... he just came to me said will you help me with a swap (hes more of a ricer kinda guy) i asked him what he wanted he said 200-250hp with a swap (ricer talk) i was leanin towards a build of the y8 and a turbo kit or a mini me but i dont know if that would be any faster (when built) than a y8 would..... any more suggestions just let me know

swap in the cheapest d u can find d15 or d16 then turbo it(so ur ricer friend can have a cool blow-off valve noise)then build d16 on the side. when the rice has come to a boil add d16 and enjoy. BBAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMM

Since when are you all pro-turbo?

$2k - $4k to spend well just boost the "D"......you can build your own custom turbo for atleast $2k and a $1k for rods and pistons.....that leave's you with $1k to spare......a boosted D-series will make anywhere from 175hp -220hp you'll be happy with 8psi more than enough power to meet your needs and plus no b-series swap for $4k will make as much torque as you will with a turbocharged d-series...
