you have to hit end on the phone so your vtech can kick on! LOL

because it's sohc, your probably not going to feel it. tell your friends it has nothing to do with oil pressure.

Well, low oil pressure means low oil. Have you checked it? Is the VTEC selenoid dirty? You won't hear the VTEC on a SOHC motor like one of your buddies B or H series motors. If you really need to know when it kicks in, and how different it sounds, run a toggle switch to the VTEC selenoid and actuate it from inside the car.

short ram intake helps with vtec sound.. i hate it... lol

i wish i drove a bmw..

but anyway.. are you sure that vtec is not crossing over??

if your sure how are you judging it? by noise?? if so then there could be a good chance you wont hear it. (just incase you didnt know... vtec doesnt engage in nuetral so you cant just rev your car and expect vtec to hit...)

i also think that when vtec is not functioning you would be throwing a CEL..

have you looked into your CEL'S??

Let us know if you uncover some CEL's or how you have diagnosed your problem

It's a SOHC not going to hear it without a short ram, and you won't feel it unless you have some work done to the motor.

He right. On a SOHC you will not feel it unless you have a different cam.

iono..i am way tired..

but seriously.. the short ram on my car and since i put it in i can hear the vtec hit on my d16y8... its nothing like a dohc vtec engagement, which is worthwile, but its annoying non the less...

the bmw quote was that i wish i could DD a bmw for comfort level, since driving a civic in california traffic sucks because merging i have no low end...

I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume ur using the stock P28 ECU, if so a CEL would come on if your vtec isn't functioning, but there are a few factors that will deny vtec kicking in, one of them is oil pressure, another is speed, another is warmup temp..

If the car's completely warmed up, ur doing over 20 mph (or whatever the hell the # is), and you're not throwing any CEL's, check ur oil... the Vtec won't kick in if it's too low.

PS: it's vtec, not vtech (that's a phone company)...I know the difference might small and pathetic but some of H-T's members are small and pathetic and will blast you for it

i am not implying you will hear anything...

i said i can hear it on mine.. but i dont know why...

short ram intakes will not really do anything for you on a stock d16 but to each his own..

if u want one ill trade you my AEM one off my d16y8 for your stock setup...

BTW, CEL is "check engine light"

its a little orange light on your cluster that will light up with the picture of an engine when you ecu senses something is wrong with the car.. do u have that?

I figured it all out. You need a laptop to make your VTECH work right. Its not kicking in, so lets fix it ASAP. I found one in the warehouse, and even Spoon Sports is jealous.

I have one in stock. $25 shipped.

i was just being hypothetical.. salinas is too far anyway.. but like... i can honestly say that there was no improvement in my car that i noticed when putting on header, intake and exhaust...

with that money spent, eveeryone told me just to boost, should have listened...

only thing is i spent more to get carb legal parts due to california emissions laws...

with that said a boosted civic would never be street legal here and since the cops have random smog stations set up time to time.. one happend to be infront of my house.... i have been taking the safe road on my parts..

as for the vtec.. do an oil change and see if it helps... if not check you vtec solenoid with a multimeter... and if worse comes to worse.. wire up a vtec light (there is a write up in the archives) and see if you vtec actually is functioning.

still wondering how you diagnosed the problem with vtec engagment in the first placE?

edlebrock and greddy both make them.. i jsut dont got 3 grand to drop into a $3000 dollar car... just not worth it in my opinion... it would be nice.. but oh well...

but yea.. have u done an oil change recently?

So don't rev the car to 5500+ rpm, dumbass. It's not like you ever have to get on it that hard to commute to and from work I usually drive my 93 Si under 3000rpm all the time unless I'm getting on the highway, at which point I'm sure a little VTEC noise is better than the sound of your pitiful Civic getting the accordion treatment from a moving van in the right lane.
