Ethanol "eats" rubber.
But ethanol as an gasoline additive is usually too diluted to be a problem.
You can safely run the common 5-10% ethanol gasoline. When it start creeping up into 15-20% range, it gets questionable.
E85, which is 85% ethanol, is out of the question...unless you want to go through your fuel system and replace any rubber components with ethanol safe pieces.

Can go boom.

I've been hearing bad stories about E85 alot of cars are catching fire because of it.

Most new cars have a sticker in the engine bay stating "E85 compatible"

You'll be fine and won't notice any effects.

Yup, it's got potential. I know people who are running some scary amounts of boost on it. But those are engines that they built specifically for E85, including all of the rubber parts in the fuel system.

It's pretty insane, though, seeing an old-school Bug with a full interior pop a wheelie....

Yup, the energy content of Ethanol is certainly lower than "normal gasoline", so you'll see a decrease in economy if you use E85. Then again, if you're boosting to near-insane levels, you probably aren't that worried about MPG...
