Default Final drive and/or gear ratios for 5-speed off a D16Z for road racing?...

We have a NASA PS2/E2 92 Civic race car with a Rebello D16Z and tend to race against ITA CRXs. The CRXs have a 4.7:3 final drive available to make overall lower ratios but the damn tranny on the D16Z (SOHC VTEC) has rediculously tall gears.

I've contacted a few people but nobody seems to make a finaly drive for our tranny since its the orphan motor of the Honda world.

Any ideas?

SRR a Taiwanese company makes FD kits in 4.7 and 4.9 http://www.srr.com.tw/

I have not used them so I cannot comment on the qualilty of them ....but they are the only ones I have ever come across.

AJ Racing in BC has them on Sale for $600 CDN ($380 USD) http://www.aj-racing.com/monthly/feb...pecial_pg2.htm

Cheers

Moose

Me thinks that changing gears is not allowed in the CCR for a PS2/E2 car. Not that anyone would really know. A change like that is legal for a Pro Compact/USTCC car. Those cars run in PS1/E1. Funny thing about the motor. I believe that building a motor to ITA specs will go past the limits prescribed in the CCR. It is legal though because SCCA cars are welcome in NASA.

Yep, technically it's NOT allowed but given that our main competition in the last race was the head of the So. Cal. region of NASA and they were running an ITA spec CRX with an aftermarket final drive...what are ya gonna do? hehehehe.

That you Mike or Derek? Allegro Racing Pete here.

Yep. Mike here. I would love to spend some $'s on my engine. Gotta fix some sticking front calipers first. Fried a fairly new set of pads because of the calipers too. Oh yeah, I have a bad bearing somewhere too. Left hand turns=roar, roar, roar. Man, I hope it is in the rear. It will be a big hassel if it is in the front.
Guess it really doesn't matter. We are sooo slow anyway. We need to invest in more track time to get faster with our current setup.
