Default Boooostin!!!!!!!!!!

I just put my first $250 towards my boost project. Soon I'll match that with a grand and a few paychecks more I'll be joining the darkside. Question is, is it better/cheaper to piece together a kit?

Not necessarily. There are some members on here who built their turbo setup for under $2000, I believe. There are sites that have DIY turbo kits, I am using one right now. If you go for total premium quality custom pieces, sure, it's gonna be expensive, but it's not necessary to do that.

California - by the time you get enough cash http://www.greddy.com will be releasing their turbo kit for the 94-01 B18B motor next month...street price about $2500

Not in california...i recommend getting a Drag III Turbo Kit...

Reasons...because of the smog regulations, the greddy kit has a smaller turbine which equals to fast spool...but doesn't necessarily give you the power of a huge turbine, plus you don't get an intercooler or a BOV...

Drag III makes one of the best turbo kit I've seen, their only problem..Is that the manifold if not heat prepped will tend to crack...Some have and some haven't...just warning you ahead of time...

With Turbo, i would personally piece it together, you'll save some money..But you'll get to decide which turbine you want, and with the money you save you can get a FMU...

Hey speedymon, we are in about the same situation. What kind of car do you have? Seems to me that we will be joining the darkside at about the same time. Good luck man.

Thanks a lot i'm new to this. Yeah i might piece it together. But i was thinking about getting Drag or Revhard. They say the pieces that come in their kits are pretty good. I'm not trying to get like 500hp or nuthin. Just want something respectable and not to overbudget. Know what i mean.
Also no i don't live in Cali and i don't have emissions. Man can life get any better. Oh wait. I live in Va. DOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

Virginia
I was in the same situation as you, speedymon. I have finally decided to go custom...and since I have decided that, all the research into the parts and what to get has also helped me understand exactly how a turbo system works. Here is an excellent site to get you started: http://coolazz.tripod.com/turbo.html

Damn, I just noticed Tripod is dumb and the images don't seem to be working on that page...I know there are copies of this page out there, any help?

Also, join http://www.team-integra.net, go into the performance forums, and search for threads called Turbo 101 or something like that. A guy who is a member at overboost.com got these articles on making your own kit.

greddy is a cool kit.. and its legal.. but the power potential is not as good.

DRAG is what i got... i like it. lots of pull and its bling bling. the manifold is good... the rumor about it crackin... and blah blah blah... its all bullshiet. ben@importparts.com even has a guarantee on the manifolds because hes that sure of the quality. hes also the one who does the drag groupbuys from time to time.

piecing out a kit will save you a few hundred. just find a good deal on the parts. i rather save me the drama and buy the kit.

BOOST ON!

i would recomend drag3 also. Or what you can do is wait till the summer time when drag 4 comes out and get that, or get the drag 3 since prices will go way down. The only problem with drag 3 is that you have to weld a flange on the end of the downpipe and modify the oil return setup. Besides that, its "bolt on." Has great potential, and looks great in the car.

Good luck

you can buy a used greddy turbo kit with intercooler for generally around 2000-2500..just an option.

GReddy turbo is grrrrreeeat.

db8gsr is making 225whp in his GSR with a stock motor, stock boost.
