ECHC - Practice Day (Friday 04.19.02)
Well, wasn't able to get down there for much of anything. After negotiating a lot of back roads in the middle of South Carolina, me and a buddy were finally able to get a semblence of where we were. After passing through downtown Kershaw, we ended up at a gas station where it was pointed out to us that CMP was right next door. Doh!
Headed back to the parking lot, I was blessed to hear and see my first Honda-Challenge car coming down the road, a blue CRX with orange decals/numbers. We hesitantly followed him into the inner recesses of CMP, at a safe distance of course. We pulled up to three guys chatting, one with a driving suit on, leaning up against his CRX (same one I followed in). Parked next to him, got out, introduced myself and met Matt (speedracer33). I unfortunately forgot the other two guy's names (forgive me.) After shooting the breeze a little bit, got some good footage of the #33 car, inside and out. Sorry, no engine bay shots, too hot for the camera!
Practice had ended for the day, but I was fortunate to see some great cars in the paddock. I was pointed out Giles ITR (very lovely indeed). It seems he's had a problem with his front wheels heating up.....I'm a little sketchy on that one, someone will have details later. Shultz pulled in towing his GSR, never got to introduce myself, but I will today. There soon after, everyone headed over to techistration, and I ended up chatting with another ECHC driver (I forgot your name, my apologies) driving a 3rd or 4th (I'm thinking 3rd gen) black Civic hatch.
Matt did point out a 4th gen Civic hatch equipped with ITR engine and drivetrain that unfortunately blew his engine earlier that day. The running joke was, "sure he can't drive home but I bet he can fly home." The size of his "wing"............let your imagination soar
Introduced myself and met Giles briefly, unfortunately a new arrival (Alex) showed up, and we somehow got seperated, but I do plan to continue our conversation today.
Shortly thereafter I did head back home, but we're leaving in a couple of minutes. I was promised at least one in-car lap for my camera today by Matt, so that should be promising.
It's gonna be a busy day, and hot. Let's hope I'm not burnt bad enough to not post tonight.
