Default Gas gauge

I just recently got done working on my car and finally got it running for once.

I took it out all day for a spin. I drove it for a good 140 miles.

However, I noticed that the gas gauge didn't move at all. I know the tank holds 10-11 gallons of gas.

I have the 1988 CRX Si. I know honda gets alot of miles to the gallon. I'm curious to see if my gas gauge is stuck or not. The car did sit for about a year due to it being worked on right after I bought it.

What do you guys think?

one thing i noticed with these ef gas gauges is that if i fill my tank up ALL the way my needle will not drop for atleast 100 miles. Then it will drop faster when it passes the F line. once you get a little pass middle that thing drops FAST. Nonetheless still get the mileage im suppose to be getting

Mine does the same thing....well, it moves slightly, very slightly, but yeah, about as identical to yours as can be, maybe that's the OP's situation, maybe not.

Well. I drove it some more. At roughly 190 miles, I was having some moments that my car was "bogging". Dropping about 1,000 rpms and then kicking back in.

I pulled off and got about 3 gallons of gas from the gas station. My gauge didn't move a bit.

However, the bogging was elminated.

So I thought I'd check out the gauge itself, or at least the connections made in the dash. After taking the gauge cluster cover off, I foudn the two wiring harnesses. I removed both of them and put them back in.

I turned my electronics on and ther gauge still didn't move.

Now I'm thinking there must be a fault somehwere from the gauge to where the cable goes into the gas tank. I'll be taking out some of my interior tomorrow to check the other end of the cable.

What do you guys think?

i had the same problem with my 91 dx parts car and didn't worry too much about it. i took its cluster (one from an ex 4 door that i was rocking in the dx hatch for the tach) and it's now in my 90 std and works fine. i'm not sure how to diagnose your problem exactly, i just wanted to let you know that it's happened to a couple of us too. good luck

fill the tank til it clicks off. 200-250 miles should be near empty on normal driving, if after nearly 200 it still says full then something's definately wrong.

here's the diagnostic procedure in the manual...

NOTE: rear seat is the hatch, remove the cargo tray to get access to the sender.

Thanks a bunch. I opened it up an everything. From the looks of it, everything now seems fine. I haven't driven it yet because my roll cage is being installed right now. I'll update later when I start driving my car again.

My gauge moves but it's not accurate at ALL!!! I fill up a tank and after driving 100-150 miles, it's on E. But the thank still has 3-4 gallons or so. Never really care now since I go by my mileage.
