B18a/b, B16, DC2 etc What does this mean really?
I realize this is probably a ridiculous question, but I've been reading post after post and I can't figure out what all of these mean?
I think I have a B18 in my '95 GSR, but what is the difference between an B18 a or b, and a DC2 etc.
Please fill me in so I know what to look for when looking for engine parts/mod's etc. *everyone seems to talk about the engine's by their B or DC names and I am getting confused

dc2=b18c1 gsr motor
jdm motor b18c come as in gsr or type r

^^^^^ I was thinking the exact same thing! And you have a B18C1 in your GSR. Not just a B18C. Thats a JDM type-R motor. Dont worry tho...after awhile you will get use to all of the lingo.

If you search on google, like honda/acura chassis codes, honda engine codes, etc. You can find detailed lists, based on year, model, trim level, and country of origin. It takes a while to remember all of them but you will.
Okay, I'm confused........What's the diff between B18C and B18C1?
Would it be safe to say that I have a DC2 B18C1?
Geezzz, it all sounds so technical LMAO

B18C1 = USDM GSR 1.8 DOHC VTEC 170 hp
B18C5 = USDM Type-R 1.8 DOHC VTEC 195 hp
B18C = JDM. On a JDM GSR and Type-R motor they do not stamp the last number so they leave it as B18C it can be a Type-R or GSR but smart people will figure out, by the different valve cover, intake manifold, stamping on the head etc.
on other note is this going to be another 4 page long thread because she's a girl and every guy wana get in on this thread again.

Here mostly everyone is giving incomplete answers that kinda require you to already know things... which i really dont think you do.
its alright though. we were all new at one point.
go to this website
http://www.team-integra.net/
go to the articles section
http://www.team-integra.net/se...t.asp
and just read random things in the information/faqs link
Ill sum up some of your answers right here though.
b18b b18c b18a and anything else that goes a long that pattern with a letter infront then a number in the middle then another letter is known as the engine code... it is located on the engine block.
for this explanation i will use "b18c1"
the first letter B is for the family the engine comes from... many engines in the honda family come from the same blue prints. but had different parts added to them... like a b18b and b18c were built from the same project but for different purposes.
now the number in the middle. in this case the 18 is its displacement. honda is genious in doing this. many companies dont do this. but displacement is how big the combustion chambers are all together .... that is how much volume they take. in this case b18c5 you take the 18 and as a period in the middle. so its 1.8 liters.... in the case of the engine found in the NSX c32a the engine is 3.2 liters.
now the final letter is just one more detail to tell you what the engine is... like there are b18b b18c b18a.... that last letter tells you a lot.
this is where they arent all the same though this is something your gona have to look up. cause the letters arent consistent in other honda motors. they are just codes. just know that for integras
also on engines made for here in the united states there is always a last number.
b18b1 b18c1 b18c5
that last number is just futher detail to identify the engine. for instance a b18c1 is a gsr but a b18c5 is a type r.
Now motors that come from japan that are for the japanese domestic market(JDM) lack that last number.
they are usually stamed like this
b18b b18c b18c
notice how theres no difference between the type r and gsr codes.... you have to look at other clues to let you know if its a type r or gsr in this case.....
b18a- second generation(1990-1993) integra LS engine
b18b- third generation(1994-2001) integra LS engine
b18c1- Third generation GSR engine
B18c5 - Type R integra engine
now as for the b16 they have the same rules.
b - part of the b series family(blueprints)
16 - Has 1.6 Liters of displacement
and for b16s the last letter has different meanings... which is why i said those dont have meanings you can just apply from engine to engine. you have to remmember them....
this is all the help ill give right now.... go to team integra.net and read up in the articles....
if you have questions feel free to pm me.
good luck. have fun.
