600cc for a 1st bike
i have very limited experience with bikes, so far i've ridden two honda cbr600's. I only have a permit to ride and still have yet to attend a riding school but i do plan on it in the very near future. my friend is willing to sell me his '91 cbr600 for $1000. my question is: should i just buy his bike and have that as my starter bike after i go through the riding class, or should i look for a 250cc bike? I know that i should get a 250cc bike to start with but so far, the cheapest one i've found that didn't have any problems is $1750. To me, i'd rather buy my friend's 600 and take it easy while getting used to it since i don't have to pay him all at once rather than spend an extra $750 for a weaker bike that i'd replace later with a 600. I know i may sound a little ignorant but this is the way i'm feeling at the moment. let me know what you think.
I know its not the safest thing to do, but realistaclly speaking, i think its a good idea. it sounds like you will be saving some money, so i would go for it! but understand, you can NEVER outgrow a motorcycle, even if its a 250cc or whatever. there is always something to learn.
i think you will be alright because its not like you have 0 experience like most other people that just wanna jump onto a brand spankin new f4i or somthing, i say do it also and be careful
if ure not buying his bike...i will
jP dood...ride safe...just sign up for the class..

Go for it, get the 600. If you get the 250 you will get tired of its lack of power within a month or two. I know, I used to have a Honda nighthawk 250
