civic eg, what motor?
hey, i am relatively new to hondas (i have worked on subarus and nissans in the past) so don't bite my head off for this question.
my friend just bought a 1995 honda civic with an automatic transmission.
he's not looking to mod or anything, just wants info on the motor.
i drove it around the block a few times and let me tell you, it is really slow.
the car came with no manuals, the top of the motor doesn't give any info, and the badge in the back doesn't show trim level (vx, cx, dx, lx, etc) it just says civic.
after reading up on the d-series motor on wikipedia, it looks like the possibilities are
-d15b7
-d15b8
-d15z1
it doesn't feel like 102hp as i've driven an 88hp ford escort that felt faster.
my driving impressions are that it revs really fast after 3000rpm or so at idle and in drive. also, the transmission held it at redline for a few seconds before shifting. im not sure if that's with all automatic transmissions or engine specific to make the most power. to be honest, this is the first automatic i've ever driven.
anyways thats the most info i can give right now, and im only 16 if you're wondering why i haven't driven an automatic before.
post away! my friend needs the motor info because he is looking to replace some parts with oem stuff (probably no aftermarket) and wants to be sure before he spends money.
thanks
