Default WOOT... got a band saw a few ?

Ok i got the harbor freight horizontal band saw for 120 bucks... It was on sale for 150 plus i got the 20% discount that i found on honda-tech( thanks HT for posting that ish).... Over all assembly was pretty easy All i had to assemble was the legs and wheels other then that the blade came pre-assmebled.... So i tried cutting some 16g 2.25" piping and it was easy and fast to my surprise. But right when i get to the end it really doesn't want to cut, any adjustments i should look for.

heres a pic of the cut

maybe i'll make a vid on how fast it cuts... For 120 bucks i can't be happier sure as heck beat my chop saw

Adjust the spring so that the blade is not dropping as quick and the last little bit will always be there, but with a new better blade it will help on that final cut.

Sell it and get a jet or grizzly. The harbor freight bandsaw is missing one key adjust ment, to adjust the angle of the blade. Once the blade angles you are pretty much screwed.

I had the same bandsaw for about a year or so, loved it until it start cutting on an angle the more and more the arm went down. There is no adjustment for the blade which stinks, if you look at the jet or the grizzly ones, there is a bolt by the base plate ( when its in the vertical postion ) . You might never have the problem, just a thing I was pointing out.

Anyways make sure the blade is as tight as you can get it, and don't push down while cutting. Also if you look in the search feature, I listed a good blade number from mcmaster.

false, that saw is just fine we have 2 of them going strong now for along time.

dont bash a saw because u dont know how to set it up properly.

get a bimetal 14-18 tooth variable blade and figdet with the guide bearing a bit and itll be just fine

That HF bandsaw is the biggest piece of ****.

Mine worked for IC piping and exhaust on one car then it started walking like crazy. No matter what I did it cut like ***. Sorry to be a negative nancy... I just hate HF crap.

well im glad im the only one reaping the benefits of a sub 200 dollar bandsaw then.

when setting this bitch up, have a beer and think outside the box. if youcant do that then go buy a 1000 dollar hype saw.

Its lacking one adjustment that is crucial, yes you can cut the arm and make it adjustable but I'd rather spend 20 more dollars and have the adjustment there. Used if for a year making tons of downpipes and even manifolds. I actually wrote a review on it.

Yep, mine worked well but I think its getting wore down and started to cut not accurately, and with out the one adjustment, you would need to cut the saw and modify it.

I still like the bandsaw, but if you need something 100% accurate, its not good.

Which Jet model are you referring too? The cheapest one I see is almost 350 bucks.

What don't you get, I used it every day non stop for a year, cut stainless, cut sch10, sch40 and it finally started cutting innaccuratly.

The jet bandsaw which indeed had the adjustment

Here is the part I'm talking about, the other bandsaws have an extra bolt that allows the blade to be adjusted

so it does not sit like this

The only way to fix the problem with the harbor freight bandsaw, is to make the back bearings so tight that it puts the blade straight

But even then, when it finally gets to the last part of a cut, it will walk.

That's exactly what happened to mine. I've been checking that jet one out... I've heard it's pretty good

I actually paid $120 for my HF bandsaw and ended up selling it on ebay for $160 PLUS shipping. HAHAHA

This one looks tempting

$595.00

I've never heard of Grizzly products... how are they? I've always heard great things about Jet.

Here is the jet one... it goes for about $200 more
