Default Sorry for another oil question? (Did search)

I talked to a guy at Acura dealership and he told me that using orig. Honda motor oil is the best for your car. I have an 00 type - r and I wanna know you guys opinion on that. What kinda oil should I use for a type-r which is not modified.
Should I use 10-30 oil or 10-40? Please give me some ideas on what's the best out there. Just wanna feed the R the best! Synthetic or no? Thanks!

vietekgsr408, that's the same BS that dealerships ALWAYS say: "For best results, use Genuine Honda this, that and the other thing ..."

Be aware that Honda and Acura Dealerships are mostly equipped with the new 5W20 motor oil which is a synthetic blend (of sorts).

This 5W20 was formulated first and foremost to increase Honda's CAFE rating (Corporate Average Fuel Economy). It is NOT a product desing to give you greater performance and/or make your car last longer. Personally, I don't trust it for hard driving or high temps. It starts out thin and will only get weaker when subjected to high heat and RPMs.

A simple answer is to use 5W30 until you are out of warranty. Then I'd swith to 10W30 for SoCal temps.

For synthetic vs. dino, see the other ongoing oil topic.

personally I think both oils have their advantages (regular and synthetic). I actually use a semi-synthetic (Castrol) blend now after many years of Mobil1 synthetic use. I have met and dyno'd with a lot of guys who have very strong stock Honda motors, and everytime we get into talking they all seem to have used regular oil since day one and just change it regularly. So I started thinking why should I spend all the money on synthetic when those guys have not and their cars ran stronger than mine stock to stock comparison. I do recommend synthetic oil for track days though. I like using 10-30 oil all the time ( I don't drive in cold weather though). Do not use 10-40 regular oil, it is possibly the worst grade of oil to use in regular oil, synthetic 10-40 is different though, I would not have a problem with it. I definitely do not like that new honda oil , 5-20, much too thin to protect under hard driving IMO, regardless of what it is made of. Don't believe those Honda tech guys, they all have the same story , they still believe that synthetic oil damages seals, unless their dealership offers synthetic oil, tey are kind of programmed to say certain things.
