Mini-me swap information
I just picked up a full y8 motor a couple weeks ago. Heres my queastions.
1.I can use the y8 head for the mini me swap, correct?
2.I dont have to convert to obd1, correct.
I already have read over the write up on the mini me swap. These are just a couple more questions i have. Thanks

not trying to brag, but I am all over the mini-me swap, and have done mine correctly. Ask me anything, i'll try to answer.
1.You are correct. Any D series head will mate with any D series blocks (there may be a few exceptions).
2. OBD-1 is not crutial, but I did it. Without it you will need to do a few ghetto things. Use a rpm switch to activate your VTEC for one. To my knowledge, the VTEC map on the p28(the one you'd swap to) is progressive with the fuel and air maps. Using your stock ECU is a little inacurate.
ALSO, converting to OBD-1 opens up a bunch of new tuning programs should you ever go forced induction.
P.S. if you have the full Y8 motor, you should go ahead and swap the whole thing. PM me for any questions.

I got the whole motor, but do not really want to get into converting to obd1. I wanna get my hands on taking motors apart. The only things that im not sure of witht the mini me swap is the head bolt torquing and timing. Other than that is seems like its not too difficult.
if you have the complete motor just swap that thing in..its better..
You dont have to convert to obd1 when you swap in the complete motor....Just run obd0 distibutor and obd0 ecu (chipped with vtec maps would be best) and keep the stock obdo injectors and resistor box.....

Maybe im not sure what the d16y8 shortblock is worth....you probably have to find someone whos blown theres up and needs one badly....
But you can probably sell your old complete d16a6 engine for $100....

i think i am just going to do the mini me swap, stay obdo and just run a vtec controller and use the obdo dizzy. Then just run it and tune it till it blows and put a sohc zc in there and boost. Also, whats the difference between the y8 and z6?

That doesnt make any sense at all....
You have newer complete D16y8,,so why not just swap the complete motor in and enjoy?
And why would it blow up? should be no reason for that....

just drop in the whole y8
if you wanna open an engine mess with the a6 tou are gonna take out
if you wanna stay obd0 get a pr3 ecu
y8 heads have better quench areas but flow less when compared to z6
the good thing about the y8 head is that your ef dizz will bolt right up

You don't need the harness for the Y8. You use your stock harness for the car. Just put the y8 in the car and run OBD1 and you will be more happier and save alot more money than blowing this one and buying a ZC.
