Stock seats with 5 point harnesses
You've all probably seen it, the guys who rock stock seats with the 5 point harnesses. I mean, I don't really like racing seats, but I like the safety factor of a 5 point harness when properly.
My question, is it safe to rock stock Ef seats with harnesses? And also, does it damage the seat any?
I mean, would you guys rock it?

Bumpity bump.
I understand that any time one uses harnesses that they need a rollcage, but is it safe to use harnesses with stock seats rocking a rollbar and c pillar?

Hey man, if you don't beleive in safety, then good for you.
Its one thing to take risks and do unsafe stuff. But I want to be prepared. I don't plan on rolling my car, but if I do, I don't wanna loose my head because I used harnesses with stock seats.
Come on? Anyone know?

I would not use 5-points with stock seats. Even leaving the mounting points aside, I feel that any "sub strap" that wraps around the front of the seat is not safe. It can turn the buckle so that it points into your gut, which can make it a reasonable equivalent of a very dull knife if you get thrown forward against the belts... To use a five-point setup, I feel, you need a hole in the bottom of the seat for the belt to pass through.
I would not have a problem using a six-point belt in a stock seat, though. Again, this assumes the mounting issues can be worked out nicely. And also assuming you wind up sitting with the shoulder belts on your body correctly--which probably means you gotta be a biggun, like me!! With a six-point setup, you sit on the dual sub straps, and they go back under your thighs to the mounting points on the floorpan of the car.
If your seat does not have holes for the shoulder belts, you need to make certain that the belts do not try to "wrap around" the edges of the seat and get twisted that way or moved laterally. That can cause real problems if you wind up needing the belts... But different people fit the seats differently, so that might or might not work for you.
Anyway, as a generic thing: For the street I would not recommend five-point restraints. On the track, I would not recommend five-point restraints in the stock seat. I would not even recommend six-points and a stock seat, unless you can check and make certain that the belts fit you correctly in the seat. But if you want to be certain, just get a race seat with belt cutouts.
