Default accord se 97 f22b2 oil and coolant leak w/ PICTURES

Hi Everyone,

need some help/guidance/opinions w/ my oil and coolant leak. Here's the facts...

- leak started immediately after i did oil and filter chg. confirmed that oil bolt and filter is torqued nice and tight. oil is not coming out of oil filter area for sure.

- previous oil chg my car was given 10w-30. this time i did oil chg myself and put back in 5w-30; this is when the oil began leaking.

- 97 accord w/ f22b2 engine. ~115k miles. no mods; all stock. got radiator replaced about 3 months ago.

My observations...

- oil appears to be leaking from rear engine block.
- no visible leaks from engine bay.
- leak appears to form around wear the engine block and oil pan meets
- coolant is leaking as well
- coolant looks to be leaking towards top of engine block; drips down along the black casing that need to be removed to access timing belt.
- coolant in reservior is clean
- oil doesn't seem to have coolant in either. oil appears a little light and thin, but i'm not sure since i just chg'd oil. (the picture link has a paper towel i used to check the oil. )

anyone know possible culprits? thanks for all your replies!

I'd say Oil pan and Water pump if not the headgasket also.

Has your Oil Level raised at all?

A Compression test will tell you whatever you need to know

With that mileage I'd say its time to change a few gaskets. I recently had a sludge buildup from a very worn out vlave cover gasket.

The F22b2's also have gaskets that need to be replaced inside the cylinder head mine need to be replaced......soon.

In your situation it sounds like the leak isn't bad enough to where some oil/coolent is leaking into the cylinder chamber, but it does sounds like the head gasket needs replacement.

Check for vaccum leaks as well. I don't normally do them, but I'm sure the people at accordinglydone can/will have suggestions on the process.

Note: Since the head might be coming off, consider putting a few hundred into your car (you don't have to, but you might be making repairs later if not now). Maybe a new timing belt, water pump, some head work (valve adjustment, valve cleaning, seat work, etc...).

why did you down grade your oil? you are better off with 10w-30 cause its more Thicker and is better for a car that has over 100k miles on it...

#1 you definately got a bad gasket around your oil pan. Replace it

Have you ever had the timing belt changed. If not, do that before you do anything else and see if your coolant leak stops.

I agree with the water pump leaking (was the timing belt changed, is it due, and was the water pump changed when the belt was changed?). And the oil pan gasket looks to be leaking too. The exhaust pipe has to be removed, to change the oil pan gasket. Just for your information.

Oil does not seem to be rising, but its tough to say because the oil is leaking @ the same time.

the manual said my engine takes 5w-30 so that's what i try to put in. i know 10w-30 is ok too; that what the shop put in last time when i didnt have chance to chg oil myself. thanks for the advice, i'm going to stick w/ 10w-30 from this point forward.

brought in my car last weekend. turned out to be bad valve cover seals. so i got that replaced along w/ timing belt, water pump, tensioners, etc.

mechanic said the oil pan gasket was fine but he tightened it up for. turned out there was no coolant in the oil so headgasket is fine. WHEW!

thanks for everyone's help on this; appreciate it!
