Default Crankshaft

Hello once again my fellow H-T members. I have a really quick question. Does anyone know if I can use any d series crankshaft on my d16a6 motor, or are the d15/d17/d16z6/d16y8/zc sohc crankshafts different by alil which makes them not interchangeable? My journal got f'd over by spinning a bearing which shreded the surface on one of my journals on my crank. So please, if possible provide advice/info if they are the same or not. Thanks guys!!!!

any d16 crank will fit, don't think the d15 or 17 will, and the sohc zc will, not sure about the dohc zc one tho, i think it does tho

You'll need to get the block line honed for the new crank, regardless of what motor it comes from.

So it wouldn't matter about the crankshaft if it came from a d15/d16/d17 correct? As long as the block line is honed? Right?

I'm pretty sure that you'll want to stay with a D16 crank. The other cranks will work but D15s have a different stroke and I'm pretty sure that D17s do as well.

If I use a d15 crank, and the only difference between the two is a smaller stroke, d15: borexstroke: 75mm x 84.5; d16: borexstroke: 75mmx90mm, all I lose is compression correct? I'm going turbo... so this may help . Putting a t4 on my car, so any low compression goals would help tremendously. Please give me info!

The stroke is from top to bottom right? The distance it travels? correct? Sorry for the noobish questions, I just started internals like 2 weeks ago. =P

d15 crank has smaller main journals than the d16 so you can't use those

Smaller main journals? Which we be the journals that are held by the main cap? So the crank spins freely; that one right? Man oh man. Is there concrete information by which you are going by? Can anyone else vouche on his word of advice? Please anyone, help if possible.

Would it be more better if I used a d16a1 crank from an Integra dohc motor? Cuz I can't seem to find other d16a6's in the junk... and I can return the d15 crank for store credit or exchange... So please guys... 411!!!!

correct - D15 main journals are 10mm smaller than D16 - HF D15 cranks also have smaller rod journals

I see. So for sure the crank will fit... but the snouts may vary correct? Thanks jilicrx. Even if the d16a1 / d16a3's are dohcs the crank wouldn't vary much right? Would it be advisable to pull a crank from a 90-91 integra first gen (d16a3 dohc) or from a 88-89 first gen integ (d16a1 dohc)?

Do you think the later model first gen (d16a3) would have the same size snout as my 91 civic (d16a6)?

there are no D16A3s - all 86-89 Integras are D16A1 - 90-91 Integras are B18A1s - most 86-88 Integra D16A1s have the small snout - most 89s have the larger snout, like your 91 D16A6

- Correction -

D16A3

* Found in:
o 1988-89 Acura Integra
+ Displacement : 1590 cm3
+ Bore and Stroke : 75 mm X 90 mm
+ Compression : 9.5:1
+ Power : 118 hp @ 6500 rpm & 103 ft·lbf @ 5500 rpm
+ Valvetrain : DOHC
+ Fuel Control : OBD-0

D16A1

* Found in:
o 1986-87 Acura Integra
+ Displacement : 1590 cm3
+ Bore and Stroke : 75 mm X 90 mm
+ Compression : 9.3:1
+ Power : 113 hp @ 6250 rpm & 99 ft·lbf @ 5500 rpm
+ Valvetrain : DOHC
+ Fuel Control : OBD-0

But yea, I got those numbers/specs from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_D_engine#D16.

Hrm, hopefully I get lucky and find an 89 at the junkie and pull it out. Before anything though, I'm going to measure the diameter and journals (main&rods) and measure the one I pull out from the junkyard... so this way I'm not wasting my time! Thanks though so far jilicrx.

You know what could really help? If you sent me a crankshaft for my d16a6 like a true homie =P

Now if I get one with a small snout, then when I put the cap on, on the pulley side, the oil will leak out correct? Anyways, I'll measure and size them up just for my sake. Thanks jilicrx.
