Default ut oh blue smoke

92 hatch with a ls/vtec swap.
ive been doing some searching and im seeing blue smoke and burning oil could be shot piston rings or bad valve seals.. Im taking a guess my pistons rings are shot.. this bottom end is out of a 92 ls.. b18a1 i have no idea how many miles i should of checked it over but it was dark and my buddy gave me the ok. Others say valve seals but im running my old b16 head and its in perfect condition. Does my blue smoke problem sound piston ring related? When i start up the car i get a little white smoke. But everytime i mash on the gas i see a cloud of blue its ridicolous. And im going through oil like a champ and my timing is a tad bit off ..

do a compresion check to see if your rings are shot, if you still have good compesion, then it might be your valve seals.

Sounds like rings to me.

As for valve seals they really smoke while the engine is in vaccum.
For instance the red light scenrio idleing and smoking a bit of blue smoke.
Once you get up to cruising speed you will notice that its really not smoking any more.

As for the rebuild read up some on reliable ls/vtec threads and let see some
p30 slugs in those chambers. A little tweaking at the head and some cams.
Last but not least some fuel management.

Sounds like the rings to me. Happened to me on my old car after the head was rebuilt.

The shop that did my rings charged me $1000 for parts and labor. (They are overpriced though)

ahh no.. ill do labor myself.. im proably going to another block and build it so i can boost the hell out of it when i drop it in. meanwhile ill get a compression test too make sure

first do a compression check record aall the numbers then put a spoonfull of oil in each cylinder and check compression again. If it jumps up dramaticly then its rings
